After having the Adelaide Ravens kicked out last year, Netball fans are getting ready for the culling of another team, the sydney sandpipers. Netball NSW has apparently decided that it is not financially viable to have 2 sydney teams and is therefore going to cull the PIPERS and replace them with an "out of metropolitan area team."
This is ridiculous and more pain for netball supporters.
If its true that the PIPERS are not viable in Sydneys EAST.
Why not relocate them, it at least will keep their players together and will at least give their fans their team to follow.
Im sure many Pipers fans would still follow their team
if the were the
WEST SYDNEY SANDPIPERS
NEWCASTLE SANDPIPERS
or whatever
simply kicking them out and bringing in another team (which i suspect would be full of pipers players anyway)
doesn't do anybvody any favours.
This has been shown by the dumping of the ravens for the ais/canberra darters
although they have had some good results, many ravens fans simply cant force themselves to now follow the adelaide thunderbirds
if NETBALL wants to build strong local derbies and loyal team supporters they have to stop killing their teams
