Sam Kasiano's likely Origin selection has sparked a scathing attack on rival NSW and Queensland coaches Ricky Stuart and Mal Meninga from leading New Zealand official Tony Kemp.
With Kasiano set to become the second Kiwi to switch allegiances so he can play in this year's Origin series, Kemp said something had to be done to stop Stuart and Meninga poaching players.
Despite having signed a letter of intent to play for New Zealand just two months ago, TheSun-Herald yesterday revealed the giant Canterbury prop was set to replace Dave Taylor for the Maroons in Origin III.
Kemp said he had spoken to Kasiano within the past two weeks and was aware that he had again been approached to make himself available for Queensland.

Why can't they re-introduce the "Adrian Lam" rule???

That way, the Origin selectors can get who they like, without forcing players to swtich allegiances.

I'm sure the attraction for the players here, is to play Origin footy, not to play for Australia.

Whether we like it or or not, $50k talks. There seems to be a naive expectation that the AUSTRALIAN Rugby League Commission will step in. Why step in when it is beneficial to them? Sending Kempy over to Australia to get these blokes to sign non binding letters of intent really is of no consequence. As soon as the selection comes and the money is there, its all over red rover.

The NZRL should be using Reuben Wiki to get these guys to play for the Kiwis more, not Tony Kemp.

Exactly. We complain about it, but we send Tony Kemp in? I could name plenty of Kiwis identities that would be a lot more influential. At the end of the day, Kasiano is looking after No.1.

Realistically, why can't these blokes play Origin footy AND for the Kiwis???

Because SOO is mate vs mate, for true blue Australians, not to be infiltrated by the Bro Mafia. So instead of opening the borders, they simply transform Kiwis into Australians.

It doesn't matter who goes over. Whether it be Kemp, Wiki, or Abdullah the Butcher. Unless they come with a great big sack of dough like Alex the Kidd used to pick up, they're no show. Its all about the money and the bling.

Josh is also a Raider. Ruben's held in high regard there. It'd be like being a Bronco and getting a call from Lockyer.

True. If I'm trying to pull a supermodel, I'm no hope...but wouldn't I do my hair and wear a decent outfit just to give myself a starter's chance?

If I was trying to pull a supermodel I'd go without an outfit at all; it's pretty much the only way I'd stand a chance.

This is just another example of how f**ked up the State of Origin is.

And just by the bye, Tony Kemp should not be in the position that he is in. He is, and always has been, incompetent.

Wiki is held in high regard pretty much everywhere in Rugby League, especially more than Tony Kemp by younger Kiwis.

Yes I know Wiki's held in high regard. But he's still turning up with a Mrs Macs meat pie and a bag of skittles. Its like one dude rocking up on a Morris Minor with two busted axles and has foul body odour, versus another dude coming up at the same time in a top of the line limo, fresh as a daisy after bathing in his jacuzi on his private learjet, with a briefcase with $50k and three blonds on each arm, two of which are yours if you take his offer. Wiki may be a great bloke, but most people are going to go the other way when they're hard pressed.

If Lockyer called me, I'd be wondering how a concrete mixer got my number and how it was able to make a phone call.

Maybe so, but you said it doesn't matter who goes over there. Well I'd say it does especially when its Tony Kemp vs Wiki. Since we can't compete money wise why wouldn't we try and maximise our chances in other ways?
