I hear and have read recently that Souths have signed some young representative players from other clubs.

Does anyone have any ideas or have any inside information on who these players might be?

I have heard the 3 Paea brothers and Aaron Mercer from Roosters but only on the grapevine. If anyone has any news i would love to hear it.

I've heard that Richard Horne may be a target from Hull. That would be an excellent signing

Im not meaning to be critical here but with the sucess of Chris Thorman at Parramatta this season dont you think it would be better to stay away from the englishmen? Adrian Morely is a different story all together. He's got that harer edge about him that helps him suceed at this level and the fact he plays for the top club helps too.

I've also heard the Richard Horne rumour. But it keeps getting denied because he's still under contract for next year. I don't know enough about him to comment. Horne at least is an International where as Thorman is just another player.

I heard from a very knowledgeable source yesterday that Souths will probably sign Gavin Lester. He's a good first Grader that would add depth. Not a match winner but handy player.

A young hooker from QLD. A replacement for Walker (when he goes to the Tigers), and Death.

I never rated Thorman anyway, he had a good 'War of the Roses' match and everyone started talking about him as the saviour. Horne is in a different league. Form is temporary, class is permanent! Horne would be in my Lions first team every time.

Walker i cant see coming out of retirement for souths (no offence)
Peters i couldnt see returning.
The 3 named roosters i could all see signing for the bunnies
I think Parramatta have an inch for Marsh, plus i think Marsh would go at parra for less money because thats his home.

You have to remember that Thorman is very young. Watch him tear up the ESL next year after his NRL experience. He was never going to dominate first year at such a young age from England.

Oh yeah im not saying Chris is a bad player, simply to raw for the NRL, his form was so erratic this season, even his match for was erratic.

I heard Henry Perenara from the Dragons was very interested in Souths but he and his brother from the Warriors ended up signing with Parra, according to the NZ Herald.

I think Souths are still sniffing around a few new players.

Shane Richardson said at the souths fan night that he was in talks with a fullback but wouldn't announce the name. We have signed a stack of juniors from other clubs that will not be announced until after the grand final.

Actually while I am at it, Richo stated in no uncertain terms that the current lot of shonks playing at souths are all on ridiculous amounts of money and that he can get souths back to normal contract payments by 2006.

He shifted around the fact that he is trying to offload players to free up space under the cap to secure better players. It may or may not happen, but Richo is prepared to show players the door and if they walk out of it, all the better for us.

Richo was very astute about talking about contracts.

He also said that the top 25 players are based on the amounts paid. Souths have players that are in the top 25 paid players but aren't in our top 25 squad.

He said that there will be more signed both young and experienced.

He was asked if experienced players are still to come and the answer was “YES”

He made the point that in 2006 we will be in a better position to spend the money as the bad contracts would have run their course.

Also only 2 trials. The Shield and the Dogs. Great trials (better than Wests, Manly, Qld cup teams etc) :clap:

The Shield will NOT be treated like a Trial with Richo in the place :clap:

Ellison has been offered the Premiers coaching spot :clap:

Brendan Hurst is GONE. Mitch Healey is GONE. John Frare is GONE.

He made the point that we did not get our number one choice for 5/8 but they are still working to improve our options in regard to 5/8.

He said he has scouts all over the bush and QLD who give him the mail on young talent. Thank God for that I say.

Also said that we are cutting ties with the Ipswich Jets. Money is better used in investing in Souths Jnrs. Fair enough.
