Anyone else hate this time of year?

Origin really kills the NRL and we are up for some really boring games. Cannot understand why they do not stop NRL for 2 or 3 weeks for Origin and commence with the NRL straight after. That is not only a better solution but a fairer one. Why should teams be so disadvantaged. I hate this time of year just for the short rounds alone.

Origin was good in the 80's early 90's but since then has been dead and the quality of the games has dropped significantly.

Another thing is if a team wins games 1 and 2 they should really consider not playing game 3. Seriously I will not understand what the point is?

ANyone else think that this will also halt the momentumn of some clubs including Saints and bring others to the field who have been performing bad.

I love Origin and get excited for it every year but I agree the competition becomes very lacklustre with 34 of the elite players missing from club footy. At some point it definitely needs to be moved to a stand alone weekend.

I think the issue with the 3rd game comes down to TV rights and contracts in place with stadiums etc. Channel 9 pays for 3 games and this is a massive chunk of revenue for the game, simple as that.

Whilst there is some short term pain when we lose players to Origin I truly believe it is for long term gain (assuming we can actually hold on to our Origin players - a big assumption given the clubs poor retention attempts of late). Origin takes players to another level and top clubs always contain a contingent of Origin players (Melbourne, Broncos, Roosters etc). It's how the club manages the Origin period that is the real leveller. Over the years Melbourne have become experts at this.

It absolutely sux.

All started with the rep round and won't end till end of July. Completely stifles the momentum of the season.

That's 3 months of the season with half arsed games, partial rounds with weakened squads and crappy football all round.

The NRL really knows how to shoot itself in the foot.

Love the origin concept and love watching the games..

But it screws the season for the fans..

You either end up watching your team minus the stars; watching your team play half-tired stars; or not watching them at all thanks to the bye..

Add to that the results go haywire (some may argue it evens out the comp, but too many 'upsets' happen this time of year due to an unfair system)

Not to mention injuries that can happen..

Far too many teams have been traveling well for the season, only to fall off a cliff post Origin..

Don't know what the answer is..

I agree - I f#cken hate origin. Especially when our players get injured and are unable to play for us.

Piss the byes and the split rounds off. Play as normal. Tell them to harden up, they get paid 30k for 80mins work. If they want a rest let them and the coaches nut it out.

For me , these games just don't seem to have the same skill level as they once did - too much onus on the defensive side of things nowadays , which creates boring footy .

Unfortunately most of the skill and perhaps more so ' the never say die ' attitude, comes from those 4 X drinkers in the maroon jerseys .
That is what our blokes are missing , that same team spirit that the cane-toads have .

Until we find ourselves a coach whom can instil those 2 necessities into the Blues , we shall continue to look like a queue of patients , lining up for their yearly dosage of Castor Oil from good ole Doc Queensland .

I love SOO, I always watch Dragons regardless of where I am or what I'm doing, only occassionaly other NRL games, only some finals, and occassionally internationals but always get excited and enjoy SOO regardless of how NSW are going.

The two states have been fairly even for decades in quality and ability only separated by attitude imo. If NSW could counter the 'can do' attitude that Qld have sustained all these years the results would be better. Daley has shown he can't muster the winning spirit and needs to go (please don't go to Dragons).

2-1 Qld this year I reckon.

The concept is great and is one area we truly sh*t all over yawnion & AFaiL. I prefer no Dragons selected but this isentirely selfish.
The timing is rubbish(drawn out over 8-10 weeks - maybe standalone over 6 weeks eg a game every 2 weeks)and the risk of injury is all to apparent. I'm a bit undecided on the quality of the club games as it's does offer a chance for newer players to step or for teams to kick start their season. Haven't got the answer but my wife & kids get me back for the lower number of club games through the split rounds!

They should put 4 more teams in the comp . Split the comp into 2 10 team conferences play each team in your conference twice. Between the first full round of your confrrnce tale 2 weeks off to play origin. Then no stops intill end of season. Top four from each confrence play off until 2 remain which decide the title. Conferences each year are drwn from a hat.

Yeah, not a big fan as it can derail a team's season, and 2011 comes to mind as case in point. However, I can't see another way realistically. Maybe just playing three consecutive weeks and no byes is the best? Just get it done. It is probably those that are not that passionate about club footy that love origin most. It's normal to deep down not want your players selected, albeit a tad selfish.

Dugan playing for Australia the other night and getting felled by his own club teammate was pure frustration. Sure it hurt him but it hurt us passionate Dragons fans more!! Low and behold the next game he plays is a rep game. Bit of a joke - not to mention he signs with the Sharks in the mean time. Devalues our club that has been around 3 times longer than the Blues.
