G,day Youngie,

Actually i found the first two sections prettystraight forwardand 'to the point' but the third section was an absolute killer, a view shared by many at my school.

I must admit I didnt focus much on writing techniques in my studies as, actually all of the sample papers and the practice papers i undertook never really made you take such an in depth look at it, it was mostly the messages that the composer was trying to portray, or the lessons you learnt from the various composer's and things like that, required a lot of quick thinking today!!

The small town mentality, its everywhere!!
But much more concentrated in the country I've heard.

Thanks to everyone who wished me luck by the way.

Well I have to agree and disagree with some of the comments about small country towns. I grew up in a town of about 2000 in mid-west NSW. I absolutely hated the fact that everyone seemed to know your business before you did!!

And yes, there was a lot of bigotry around, which is why Pauline Hansons mob is stealing a lot of the National Party vote these days. But on balance I reckon it was a great place to grow up. People are a lot more friendly than in cities, especially these days, and there's always plenty of people ready to give you a hand when you are having a tough time.

I loved the freedom of movement and the laid back culture. I also reckon the racism and bigotry that was prevelant actually turned me off a lot of that stuff. The same can be said for a lot of my old school friends.

I think that cities have just as much bigotry, but it's just not as visable because it's not politically correct to mention it (country folk couldn't care less about whats politically correct so there is a greater sense of 'what you see is what you get'. The recent carry on with the boat people, and the huge public support for Howards actions, proved this to me (that city people are just as bigotted).

But country people are very wary of non-locals at first and do seem more narrow minded because they have a smaller range of topics to discuss. They are more interested in local affairs than whats happening in the rest of the world.

ABA: I know exactly what you mean, everyone from my school struggled with the question as well. I didn't find a practice paper similar either, which i think is a bit of a rort.

Albatross: good point, I'll be the first to admit I have very little experience of the country on which to draw. In addition Bathurst specifically is a very large country town and should be more like the city than many country areas.

If anyone's interested I had a Senior Science exam today. Extremely easy, even more so then what I expected. It's a three hour exam but I can't see how anybody couldn't go slowly and still be finished within two hours. Tomorrow is the second English paper, which requires responses on 3 different subject areas.

Another viewpoint from a hsc student.

Today the second English paper. All three questions I did (John Donne, In the wild and powerplay) where fairly straight forward, not many hassles. I was surprised that there was 2 essays as I expected 2 text types responses. Nothing too unusual though.

Now I've got until Monday off when I havestage 6 maths, an exam I am dreading!

I"ve suffered a setback tonight. Was playing oz tag, I ran down a bloke who was going to score, dived and tagged him. I landed stranngely on my left wrist (non-writing hand luckily). Bloody painful, don't think I broke it but I've gotta have x-rays tomorrow.
