When are the people in power going to realise that playing footy at ANZ stadium is killing the game. Sure it was a great venue for the Olympics, and it can be a good venue when sold out, but that does not make up for the fact that it is a terrible venue for watching league. There are so many seats at the venue that are too far away from the action, and these are the ones affordable seats. To actually get a good seat you really need to pay for it.
The SFS is the premier footy stadium in Sydney and is where all the big games should be played. It's less than half the size but the atmosphere is 10 times better. All seats in the stadium have a great view and you have a sense of being close to the action. Playing games there is good for fans, players and the game.
Why the dragons are playing their home games there is anyones guess. I guess it works out cheaper for them but 6000 odd people at a venue that holds 85,000 is disgusting (well done to those who went). It's bad for the game and is not enticing for anyone watching at home to actually want to be there.
Look at State of Origin. Theres now talk that if Sydney can't fill the stadium then they aren't going to play two games here again. They'll either permanently have 2 in QLD or play the 3rd in Melbourne. Can't they see that it's that fact that nobody wants to go to ANZ stadium to watch a game because it's a sh*t venue. Apparently the contract to continue with games there ends in 2011. By then the game will well and truly be dead.
Look at QLD. They sell out in 90 minutes of tickets going on sale. If you have ever been there you know why. It is an awesome sporting venue, perfect for watching our great game. Sitting at home to watch it on TV is only something that is done if they can't get tickets!
