Anzac Day team v Storm

Anzac Day in Melbourne, 2014.

Was it Cappy's first game in charge? 16-10 I recall, with that score being as it was for the final 10 mins or so. I remember being angry that we weren't attempting (or at least not scoring) a field goal and how quickly I thought Melbourne would score one if the scores were reversed.

I love this fixture and it comes on at the perfect time in NSW, about 7pm. Why didn't they schedule this fixture last year? Or was there no particular reason not to?

There was some sort of scheduling issue that prevented it being played last year I believe. I agree it should be in Melbourne every year as it's developing into some sort of a tradition.

Yeah.. they wanted to schedule 5 games back-to-back on Anzac day wasn't it? They basically took advantage of the fact that it was a Saturday - harder to pull that crap on a Monday :D

Thats right, they insisted on an Auckland game so they could utilise the time difference to get an extra TV timeslot (the same reason we always play at 7:30NZT on a saturday, it fills the 5:30 TV slot in Aus)

And Storm do it at the 85th minute, Smith tried a shocker from dummy half, Cooper showed how to take the since point, straight as an arrow

Team more or less picks itself I imagine, assuming RTS is out and no returns from injury. Pretty much the team we had out there for most of the game (Lolohea fullback, TL in the halves), with Tevaga coming onto the bench and I'd go one unforced change; Vete in for Gubb.

Agree 100%

Plus its always the Storms highest crowd attendance for the season. All their members leave their storm shirts at home and wear Kiwi gear

When I lived down there the local merch place in Richmond that sold lots of Rugby and League gear reckoned he actually sold more Warriors than Storm merch. We've got a big following down there.

Agree that Gubb has to be dropped. 30 minutes, four missed tackles. All four actually came in a 5-minute window, when the game was teetering on a knife edge in terms of ascendancy. He's actually a bit mentally unscrewed. Those grass cutters on our own line were absolutely insane.

He might be a 'cult hero' blah blah and the South Stand might love him, but there's nothing Vete doesn't offer plus more.

I like Gubbys attitude, but agree he does some dumb stuff. Needs a year or 2 playing reserve grade.

I'd like to know who James Gavat has pissed off though..

I also recall another Anzac Day game in Melbourne, 14-all, with Luck getting all 'Magic' Johnson on us with some nifty footwork, a deft dummy and a try under the posts!

This fixture brings out the best in us.

I'd like to see Lane come in for Gubb. Give him a couple of weeks on the bench and then put him straight in for Hoffman when he goes to Origiin

I'd go with:

Lolohea
Wright (Manu if fit)
Kata
Ayshford
Fusitua
Lino/Hingano (Either for me)
Johnson

Lisone
Luke
Matulino
Thompson
Hoffman
Mannering

Lillyman
Sao/Ali - Wasn't overly impressed by Sao, granted he didnt seem to play many minutes. From what I've read, Ali is doing well in reserves.
Vete
Leuluai

For the record though, really looking forward to seeing Lane in the top grade for us, he could be an awesome signing

With Sio and Hurrell only being used for 15-20 minutes max over last few weeks, I can see Lane being added to the 17 for this week I replace of them. If as stated on here, he's had couple of good NSW cup games already, we didn't buy him not to be playing 1st grade. Melbourne gave s couple of bid boys who come in off the bench, so size for us will be important. With Thompson, Mannering and Hoffman there, he'll probably came on in the tight anyway.

Our 13 looks set with either Manu or Wright. Our bench all be the interesting make-up. I'm picking:
14. Liliman
15. Vete
16. Lane
17. Tevanga
