Ardie Savea is a fast running ball playing flanker for the All Blacks and wants to switch to NRL, the bloke has serious skills. This is one man we should be chasing above all others, not only can he play second row and lock but he is also a very handy centre. Combined with friz and Lomax our right side would dominate the comp, he would give us the ability to book a ticket to the Grand Final. Ardie is worth Two David Fifita type players . I’d even forgive Mchangs around the first grade squad if he could snare this signature.

I've never seen him play but his quote is:

Savea says he wants to go to a team that stands a chance of winning.

“Strategically I would want to go to a team that was dominating, like the [Melbourne] Storm or [Sydney] Roosters,”

I’ve seen very few successful Union forwards transition to league.

For every Scott Gourley there would be two or three Garrick Morgans.

Millward need to give him his best sales pitch ……….... oh wait!

If he turns out to be a good right centre, you've got me interested. He and David Fifita would give us a chance to make the GF under a Shepard / Flanagan coaching staff.

Also says he wants to test himself. To see if he can dominate.

Sorry Muzz you said forwards apart from Ray and Scott off the top of my head, you’re right, but this is no Garrick Morgan

Would his eye ware be allowed in the NRL?

Union forwards struggle to transition to League as they are drilled on set plays (ie lineouts and scrums) as well as ruck and mauls. Fitness is also a problem as there are less stoppages in League.

Savea is an open side flanker and a very damaging ball runner. He would have the best chance out of anyone to succeed, still a long shot however.

Lateral movement coupled with speed & power are the biggest hurdles in the transition.

Sorry Saint5 while he no doubt has the potential to succeed in the NRL, while we have a coach who has failed to set the world on fire over the past six years, and no CEO, I doubt anyone would be seeing us as a club on the way up. Then again if a player really wants to test themselves, playing under Mary is one hell of a test and a challenge indeed.

In fact some players in recent time have transitioned backwards and forwards between league and union and very successfully such as SBW and Brad Thorn but no doubt George Burgess fell flat and if you are talking duds Tony Daly was the dud of all duds with our mighty union convert who was aptly named Barry Stumbles a close second.
However our game has evolved both in its style and the size and shape of our forwards so I do think good ball running union back rowers can potentially make it and Savea would be at the top of the list of high probability of making it.
