in all honesty the "love love me do" type stuff leaves me cold

and i contend that if they werent attractive to young girls then they wouldnt have made it the way they did

i think it was more a cultural phenomenon rather than sheer talent

there are better singers than george or paul

better guitar players than george

etc

sure at the back end they wrote some great songs

they did there fair amount of syrupy pop and fill too

I agree that they wern't the best looking, best instrumentalists or best vocalists, but they did write the best songs in the history of recorded music in the period of 1966 to 1970 IMO.

If you don't like the Beatles you're either an idiot or the Clash.

The Beatles?

What about Flock of Seagulls, The Triffids (their seminal classic "Red Pony" is a fine example of their lack of talent), Culture Club, Milli Vanilli, Duran Duran (although I did like the clip for "Girls on Film"), Van Halen, Europe, A-ha etc etc etc? The 80s and 90s are littered with the putrid corpses of truly horrible bands.

P.S I don't regard rap artists as real musicians. If you their collective term is a "band" you can throw them all in there as well.

Triffids sucked, Culture club were a blight on music, but you don't know sh*t if you think Duran Duran sucked!

The 80's produced some fantastic music although morons these days think it is cool to put sh*t on the 80's.

I agree that the 80s produced some fantastic music. I've got more than 1,300 LPs from that era. Alan Parsons Project, Ultravox, David Bowie (although not as good as his 70s stuff), U2, Midnight Oil, Cheap Trick, Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar/Mellencamp, ZZ Top, to name a few. The 80s and early 90s saw a huge proliferation of bands on the music scene, with it a lot of rubbish. I've got two Duran Duran albums and, although they charted well, I still don't think they were very good. But then again, music is all a matter of taste and opinion. I don't like them, but you obviously do.

Just because people chart doesn't mean that they are any good. How else can you explain why the Crazy Frog Axel F ringtone is a chart single?

Gibber gibber gibber!

It must suck to have a complete lack of commonsense. How do you deal with it?

Your friend Mr Townshend looks like a deadset plonker. Maybe they won't notice I'm going bald if I grow my hair long!
