Here I was thinking "finally, the thread is locked". Low and behold, we still have idle banter on topic that has flatlined.

People who are not wealthy are giving a lot but some people who are filthy rich are giving little. I'd like to see the mega rich give a lot. I'd like to think that they are, somehow I doubt it.

Maybe the filthy rich don't want any publicity.

John howard received my donations from taxes i pay. donations over $2 are fully tax deductable and i don't know of anyone who is saying they will refuse to claim this donation back from tax.

i feel the government should donate the money on behalf of australia from taxes which is what happens due to the tax deductability of donations in any case.

it will just cut out the middle man and financial institutions who make money out of these donations - many people are donating via credit cards/eftpos which they will be charged for this and be charged for the credit card interest they will accrue for this.

It was just announced during the cricket coverage by David Gallop that the NRL has donated $100 000 which adds to the $200 000 already donated by the NRL clubs. Not every club needs recognition for their donation unlike yours who donated $15 000 which is a weak effort from one of the richest clubs.

Congrats NRL & all clubs

Lets face it, when it comes down to it Aussie footy clubs donations are only made to keep face, because we know we're nothing but a drop in the barrel.
Perhaps a better question would be why the US hasn't been the leading nation in this disaster? They have spent staggering amounts of money chasing after the mosnters they've created and now when something truly devestating happens they're no where near as enthusiastic......

I would think so, otherwise it would appear that they haven't. Plus it's good public relations.

You shouldn't really have to publicly state that you donated...

It is good for the RL clubs to say they have donated. They provide leadership and it encourages others to donate also..... which raises more for the needy.

Wealthy individuals, companies and clubs have an obligation to donate large sums of money to causes such as this. It was great to see Schumaker donate such a large amount. I'd be interested to see what some of those dumbarse overpaid actors donated.

$15,000 is a large sum of money for a club that pays they young players twice that?

That's a great idea. Will it be one half union, one half league?

15,000 as opposed to 50,000 wow good effort for teams of scum.. as opposed to nrl angels donating 15,000....

Besides a club doesnt have to publicise whether they donated money or not.

Gallop said yesterday at the cricket that NRL clubs have put in $200,000 between them and that the NRL was tipping in $300,000

wrong - they have an aircraft carrier in one area which is generating power for the area. Their generators can generate power for 100,000 households. The waterpurifie on boasrd can purify tons of water per day. And as you can realise an aircraft carriier is a big ship - plenty of people and the cost of their wages and also the cost of fuel alone would be astronomical. You woud fnd the crew working in with the popultion repair damage and fly off emergency goods required.

I also believe that their efforts in helping is now in full swing.r

Please let's not bash the US - it took them a few days because of travel distance to get into the areas...now we don't see much of the US on tv - but you have to remember we really only see what the Australians are doing

On that too, Ozzie. They have a hospital-carrier over there too -- which would be costing God knows how much to keep going.

no last year at the bush fire appeals the brumbies wanted no part of physical activity and decline an offer, so this year for this cause the raiders suggested a cricket match

Donating to charity is not a competition.

Unfortunately in this instance it has become so.

Every dollar counts, every dollar makes a difference no matter where it comes from.

It shouldnt be a case of bragging about whats you have donated. What annoys me about it is those tight asses that come up to me and tell me they have donated $x amount and assume that I havn't just because i havn't gone around telling everybody.

A lot of A list Hollywood actors have contributed large sums of cash to the cause. Leonardo DiCaprio is another who donated a lot. Other have leant there services for concerts, telethons etc. Believe me there wouldn't be many people who have not donated to this worthy cause.
