Are the Wests Tigers genuine Premiership threats in 2004?

I`m very interested to hear if Wests Tigers supporters think we are genuine Premiership contenders this year?I`d like to think we are,but unfortunately I don`t think it`s a possibility.I have my reasons for that, but i`m particularly interested in what other supporters reasons are?For those who agree with me in saying we can`t win this year,i`d like to know what areas of the teams game they think needs to be improved to make us genuine threats?I`m predicting a lot of people will say inexperience, but aside from Benji we are practically the most experienced team in the comp!

Nope!

No chance, top 8, yes we're a chance but beyond that it really would be wishful thinking.

Id be happy with coming 8th. To me this is still a long way off and going to be very hard to achieve.

If we do make the semis (even if we finish 8th) I would consider us a chance to pull off 1 upset or so, but would give us no chance of having 4 big wins on the trot in the finals.

I recon we will make the semis and deep down i think we can win the comp

Just look at Penrith last year!

But its only half way through the season so i'll wait and see.

Funnily enough in almost every game this year (including the 7s) We have come back to win! Does that mean anything? I dont know?

If we make the semis we have as much chance as any other team I suppose.
Who knows with injuries, the bounce of the ball...a bit of luck...who knows.

If we improve steadily at a rapid rate between now and semis time, who knows what sort of footy we can be playing.
BUT.............there is always that but.....we can fall too...as has happened in the past, but dont ask me why, but I dont think the wheels will fall off this time. there is something there this year weve never had before....a sort of professionalism.
Im not predicting we'll win every game, far fom it, but as long as were competeitive, and theres no more games like the Dragons game, then I'll be happy.

I rememember how excited and positive everyone on the old forum was over summer, with news of new signings coming thru, with all the positive stuff we saw and heard....well, I think as of this very minute the boys have lived up to and possibly exceeded expectations so far.

Theres a long way to go....its only the halfway mark, but as long as we stay in touch of the frontrunners....and if we stay mid ladder or better for the rest of the year then that'll do me.

We have matchwinners this year in key positions in Hodson, Marshall and Prince - (maybe Richards) so you cant completly right it off i spose

Hardest thing will be making it, could ride the emotional wave if we do as we would have the support in it!

but yeah its unlikely.

I still think 6-8 is a realistioc finishing spot for us. Then, who knows what can happen.

What you said "Eddie",is one of my points. We only have 3-4 matchwinners. The gun sides have 6-7.Our current centres and back row have reached their potential. They definately aren`t going to get any better. However we have younger players lingering in the lower grades whom have the potential to be matchwinners. Now I know that may only be potential at this stage, but if we don`t try them sooner than later, this year will pass by and we will all never know what could have been! And to all of you who say that we shouldn`t be rushing them,I ask,how do you know if a player is ready for the top grade? If a young player continually stands out in Premier League in particular, his confidence is obviously sky high and by holding him back too long you run the risk of disappointment creeping into his mentality and even worse than that, losing that player to another club where he may come back to burn you!

Like others i would say no, as a matter of fact, if i had the cash, i would make substantial bets against it. We are travelling pretty well this year, but when it comes to semi finals, i just don't think we will have it in us to lift as much as the other teams. The truth is, we don't have the class.....YET. When the big games come, the cream rises to the top, look at the Panthers the other day, we just don't have enough cream yet. A top 8 finish i believe will constitute a successful year for us, it's next year i expect bigger things. Having said all that, if we were to make the 8, it is a whole new ball game and anything can happen.

101% agree with you!

But I agree with you too.

In the end.....Insano is right about us MAKING the GF

But, to be honest, if the Tigers were up agaist the Roosters in the GF, then there is no way i would rule out the Tigers loosing the GF.
As a matter of fact, i would put money on them to win it.

If we finish in 5th place I will be over the moon!!
And if we finish anything less then 8th.
I will then be off to Watson's Bay where there is a lovely little place called the GAP!
I shall then make my way to the edge of the cliff..................

From where we are now if we miss out on the 8 it will mean we have had a bad season. There should be 6 games we can win out of the last 12 and that should get us into the finals. Once we are there then who knows. Some of the young players just might click and some of the older ones will realise they have their big chance. Whichever way it's been so long... we need to make the 8.

Forget just getting in the eight, wests could possibly make the semis if they stay where they are on the ladder. I'd love to see another wests/dogs game decide to see who goes through to them. As for the sevens this year, f***...

I dont think we can win the comp but if we win the majority of our home game then we should make the semis. As long as Mick Stone isnt the video ref then i rate us a chance of giving one of the so called 'glamour' clubs one hell of a fright.

What about when Wests made the semis in about 96, no-one gave them a chance against the Sharks but Wests were actually the better side, just a bit unlucky.
