Galloway hints the Sharks don't train like the Tigers but I think we all know that, that's why they are the premiers!

Upsized Tigers won't sacrifice pace
By Tom Wald
January 17, 2006

WEST Tigers have upsized their pack but that doesn't mean the NRL premier will compromise its biggest asset: speed.

Keith Galloway, one of three large forward recruits, has been blown away by the pace of Wests Tigers since moving from the Sharks in the off-season.

"Just the speed, the speed of everything they do at training and stuff like that, they are just a really quick side in everything they do," Galloway said.

The red-headed forward has shed 4kg since moving to Wests Tigers.

Galloway, 20, was told by Tigers coach Tim Sheens on arrival to lose some body fat in order to fit the team's high-octane style.

The arrival of Galloway, Ryan O'Hara (Canberra) and Sam Harris (Manly) has added some serious bulk to the Wests Tigers pack, which was considered too small by many until the side swept to the 2006 title.

But Galloway said he and O'Hara were working overtime to keep up with their new teammates.

"They are a really fit side," he said.

"They like doing extra and I know myself and Ryan have really boosted our training to try and match them."

Premiership prop John Skandalis meanwhile said the new faces had ensured complacency didn't seep into the club.

"There won't be much talk of a small pack this year," Skandalis quipped.

The former Western Suburbs player believes the Wests Tigers pack can be more formidable than the under-rated unit that conquered North Queensland in last season's grand final.

"If everyone performs and the top-quality players we have recruited and everyone fits in well, I can't see why not," he said.

"I am really looking forward to seeing how we combine."

Skandalis felt the side would be foolish to change too much from the helter-skelter style that led to the joint-venture club's maiden premiership.

"We don't want to go away from what has been working for us, we just need to find that balance," he said.

"I think every year the game changes. It is just a matter of the coaching staff working what is best for us.

"We are pretty lucky we have that size in guys like Keith Galloway, Ryan O'Hara and Sam Harris. They are big units and then we have the mobility as well."

Galloway, best known for being on the wrong end of an ugly high tackle from Manly John Hopoate last season, is expected to play a key role off the bench this season.

"I am still young and still have a lot to prove and have not done much in the game," he said. "I am just out to be the best I can be, and keep improving my game."

rossy lost weight then has put a little back on. he loves the training, puts in heaps of extra sessions by himself. at penrith they emphasised upper body strength, the sharks are focusing on core strength. he would rather our training!!!!

because core strength training is less draining. More time to socialise.
Big weights means big sleeps.
However, the king of core, Mini, seems to have it down pat. Throwing out 60kg dumbell chest presses while extended on a swiss ball.

f**k me f**king fatal!!!!!!!

isnt it funny when a club wins a comp that everyone thinks they know what they are doing.

For fuqs sake.......lets see what Benji is doing cause he is the only one that won them the comp last year.

The rest is utter crap

I dont think benji single handedly won anything for anybody.....thats a ridiculous call

That team played a fast paced defensive game with a flairy style of attack and to suggest benji was the difference between them and every other team they took out when it counted is an insult and display of how little a person knows about the game.

Im sure hodgson and prince and the hard working pack would have a bit to say about that one!

If you win a comp thats close enough for me to saying we know it all! They knew it all in 2005!

This is where you are wrong and how little you know about League.

Its very simple,
take Benji out and the dont make the top4.

Sure good support, but Scott and Benji just loved to play together.

IS that coaching and training???????

No. You know nothing about the real story and as such, your comments are ill informed.

Now the question at the Sharks is............how can they get the same sort of desire to play together that was at the tigers.
It was very little to do with tactics and coaching.

Michelle....get a clue.............

take prince out, take Hodgson out and they may not make the 4 but quite frankly Hodgson did more for that team than marshall in my opinion. If you really believe that marshall was the sole reason they made the 4 you are clueless.

You can take any playmaker out of any side and that side will be less effective but dont fool yourself that marshall was the only playmaker in that tigers side.

Benji has the magic in the team... But is a shocking tackler. And he can f**k up atot under preassure. He is a very risky player to have.

When he is in form he is hard to stop. But most players are.
Hodgeson was the best tiger this year... and Prince is much more consistant than benji.
