ARL to block Brent Webb from playing

Brent Webb is less of a New Zealander than Nathan Fien in every sense of the word (ancenstry, citizenship, residency), and thats saying something.

All he did was play at the warriors for a few seasons and then piss off to england. But it is funny to see all these Kiwi's whinge about how Karmichael Hunt is a traitor but they all want to boof Brent Webb.

The Tonie Carrol situation has set the precedent... He was born in NZ... moved to Aus... lived there for more than three years... qualified... played for Australia.. Moved to UK...

When he came back he played for Aus again WITHOUT serving another three years residency... therefore Aus has set the precedent... Three years resident ONCE is enough to qualify you for a country....

World Cup matches(except 1995) aren't Test matches, so the rules for Tests don't apply. He played in the 2000 Cup, so the "once you've played a test for one country, you can't play for another" don't apply. If he played for the Kiwis in the 1995 World Cup, then he couldn't play for Australia afterwards.

they are counted as nz test caps! which carroll holds!

There are different rules for Queenlanders too, Lam played for PNG and Qld as did Craig Smith for NZ and Qld. Carroll should be a kiwi but the Qlders wanted him in origin.
It's funny coz the 1st time Matthew Ridge played Rugby League was with Manly but he couldn't be selected for NSW. I rang in to a talk back program about this a few years ago and was told there are different rules for Qld then everybody else, with a hit of sarcasim I might add.

for the real answer is that he had played for the all blacks (even if it wasn't a test match)

Problem solved. No SL players in the Kiwi squad. Webb was set to miss the Test anyway due to the recent birth of his child.

that may or may not have been within the rules.. who knows really.

What's important is that they all start to follow the rules....

As long as the rules are followed... then it's all good.

If the situation means more clarification is required in the rules... and rules actually are clarified... that's good too.

Whatever the system..... it needs integrity.

Once you play full internationals for a major nation, you're unable to play full test match internationals for another nation

would that apply to brad thorn ?

 then get it out of australia,, quickly

Brad Thorn is an Australian RUGBY LEAGUE international and not a New Zealand RUGBY LEAGUE international. The same would apply to Henry Paul if he was to be selected by New Zealand. He's never played rugby league for England.

tonie carroll played for NZ in the World Cup which didnt count against him playing for Australia in the Test side
not sure on what the exact rule was

...Lol, don't think the ARL are 100% certain of their rules either. The whole things a joke. At least Webbs only decided to play for one country...Unlike Carroll, and Henry Paul for that Matter (who not only changes codes but countries!). IMO the Carroll ruling is a way bigger joke than Webb, by a long long way. How can you declare allegence for one country, then turn round and play for another?

...And quite frankly I don't give a rats about 'World Cup games not being test matches except on certain years' crap. Carroll played for NZ. Then changed. That is what it comes down to no matter how you put it. It is about time these rules were set in concrete once and for all, then all parties can stop complaining, and the ARL wouldn't look so stupid and be accused of moving the goal posts all the time.

little bit different to the webb case as carroll grew up here, but i do see your point.

i dont see how the arl could stop webb from playing. he has fulfilled the criteria, his allegiance lies with nz. the arl are not the rlif, i really wish we had a strong international body with no allegiance to the arl (carr and love), who actually have an idea about how to grow the game worldwide.
