Hi guys, any one here in the Defence Force?

I'm looking to join the Navy as a Cook/Steward or Writer.

My group interview is next Wednesday.

Anybody here wanna share their experiences?

Dean was in the boys scouts I think, till they found out why he joined.

Chicken Hunter is in our defence forces and he's into metal so he's cool.

I wasted some time trying to convince one of my brothers to join the army, but apparently they won't take him because his feet are too flat or something *confused face*

I'm pigeon footed (foot are pointing diagonal standing normaly instead of straight).

Hopefully they won't get rid of me because of that defect.

Chicken Hunter has been maybe still is.

I like our troops, they don't decide policy.

Reckon I would spend the entire time in the brig/hole/did not listen place, not for me.

A good friend of mine is a grunt (infantry) he says it's like one massive c**k in the arse, he's in Townsville now. I have another mate who teaches climbing to the army, he gets free ropes and shit (climbing ropes cost around 250 each so he's a lucky bastard).

Most of the other army guys I know are infantry too.

Are you single with no kids. If you are go ahead. Great experience from what I've heard.

Just be prepared to move every couple of years (I'm an army brat)

My parents constantly moved, te only reason I've been in Sydney most my life is cos my parents separated when I was 5. Otherwise I would be stuck in Adelaide after living in Townsville for a bit.

No surprises there.........

Actually the reason I can't do it is due to a medical condition that I suffer and it's in the "exclusion list". So while a joke. I'm not laughing because it's something I actually wanted to do.

Was in the ADF in my teens and early 20s.

Cook or writer in the RAN should be no problem, and Australia's Forces are extremely well trained and professional.

Look into subsidies the government can provide you for university education; alongside your time in the Forces or after your contract has expired. This will open a lot of doors for you both within and outside the ADF.

Most important, have fun, you'll see a lot of the world.

Advice for the actual interview process. Approach it like any other professional interview. Speak well, be confident, make eye contact. When 'team player' scenarios/questions a brought up, stress how good you are at it. All branches of the ADF are big on that.

Don't buy into his jokes mate, he's only jealous of you because he's not allowed outside his house without a handler
