Arrogant Bennet.

Well, GC, if you are upholding a sense of honour, good on you. Of course, it's all my fault, not Bennetts, isn't it.

Bennett didn't have to accept the award - which I'm sure is safely locked away in his house somewhere, and NOT in the bin.

As for wanting the focus of the night to be on players - was he organising the night? What if Brian Smith, Ricky Stuart or Tim Sheens decided to wander into their awards night and dictate proceedings?

Bennets actions are almost the same as Joey's when he broke JT's record. At least Joey didn't snatch the award and take off.

I'm in no way defending his actions but there is more to it then some make out

Doesn't the second half of that sentence contradict the first?

Do Brian Smith, Ricky Stuart or Tim Sheens weld as much power and influence at their respective clubs? It's apples and oranges as no other coach in the league has as much say in the actual running of the club as Wayne Bennett does at the Broncos.

Even if Bennett was pissed off, he should have at least said a couple of words and made nice...then he could have fired up at Cullen afterwards if need be. What he did just makes him look like a petulant sook in front of the club and all its associates.

I never once have said Bennett is faultless or above criticism and frankly even agree in this instance that he has contributed to the criticism he has received through his actions he definately could have been a lot more gracious in accepting it then merely leaving in the fashion he did, which seems to be more of a balanced view then that of merely assuming the worst and ignoring all the facts because it suits ones own personal feelings and agenda towards a particular club they despise.

As far as the award goes, considering Bennett had prior discussed the issue with him and asked for the award to be presented at a later date as not to take away from the event, he didn't have a problem accepting the award outright he just didn't want it dominating the focus of the night. While I don't agree with the manner he accepted it I do think he was put into a position he should never have been in(considering both Bennett and Cullen discussed the issue weeks in advance) and if he hadn't taken the trophy would that have not been more of an insult, not only storming off but not accepting the award as well? I can see an arguement for both sides in that instance.

For someone who didnt want to dominate the night, he should have got up on stage made a quick speech and sat back down, instead of feuling a never ending fire of hatred towards him.

I guess Bennet is finding it hard to keep in check his hatred of Broncos management, i can not blame him, i feel the same way

The least he could have done was give everyone the bird!

This thread is named incorrectly. Last time I checked, being uncomfortable accepting awards, and preferring others (players) above yourself was called humility ...?

Wow, since when did you become a Broncos fan blowfly?
How does this really affect you?
You live your life nitpicking anything pertaining to QLD/Broncos.
It is a Bronco issue....but you act as though he has committed genocide
It's worse than not shaking someones hand. Shunning your own club like that : dissrespect :

Gee, GC, you were doing so well too, until the bit I highlighted.

What, pray tell, is the info I ignored? How is your view more balanced than mine if we agree? Do you agree better than I?

Oh, so humble is he, snatching an award and grumbling off like Walter Matthau! Funny, for a bloke who didn't want to take the spotlight, he sure found a way to hog it.

Perhaps Bruno should have accepted what Bennett wanted.
Its not like he sat in his chair all night. He was on stage and spoke for 40 mins.

All well and good, but his sook act has taken far more attention away from the players than a simple handshake and thankyou ever would have...

I'm amazed ... has anyone of you intellectual giants actually seen footage of Bennett accepting or not accepting the award? Has anyone spoken to someone at the awards? Have you read a second article about the incident?

Or do you believe everything journalists desperate for an angle write?

In the era of trashy tabloid reporting everyone becomes an instant expert ...

But let's not let facts or lack of research get in the way of your tall poppy problem ...

It has been confirmed by a Broncos supporter that was at the awards night, it is also confirmed on the main Broncos forum, buy supporters that were there.

Its a football forum, considering this is a football related story and it is the off season, people find this interesting.

Not the story itself, but the Broncos supporters trying to put a spin on the story

Talk about a lot of overblown rubbish. I'm surprised the article didn't have a shot of Dane Carlaw or Shaun Berrigan crying their eyes out.

Truer words have never been spoken ...
Nar whats makes him a genius is coaching a side with so much junior talent wanting to play for the club that they still let talent like Cam Smith and co go.
