How does this compare to AC1? Because I loved that game for about 3 hours then got really bored. Was just the same mission over and over and over again.

Be interested to give this a try if it has more variety

The Assassin Creed games have slowly got better IMO, but I think they've really started to over complicate things.

Lol looking at the map and all the different missions and side quests you can do can be daunting to the levels of hyper ventilation sometimes...

I learnt a long time ago in Assassins Creed to just focus on story missions, then when I'm bored after I've finished it, work through the side missions.

AC3 has a ridiculous amount of content this time around. Finished the game however a few days ago, ending leaves alot to be desired, but it's definitely the best instalment in the series by far.

definitly the way to do it Firey... Otherwise it feels really really strange and disjointed seeing a cutscene where Connor gets all fired up about something and then you go hunt some racoons down by the river...

I've beaten the game, here's my thoughts on the ending and story in general - DO NOT OPEN SPOILER QUOTE IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE ENTIRE GAME SPOILED.

I see why people who saw the leaked plot were complaining about the ending, it is absolutely terrible. Juno has been plotting the entire events of the trilogy, her plan ending with Desmond's (rushed) death and her saving the world. It is the same ambiguous "what the!?" crap from ACII, I swear that the writers for these games are lazy and aim their drivel at little kids.

Anyone with half a brain can see that the endings in the AC games are just rushed random crap designed to 'awe' people. Well they don't. Drivel. Desmond's death isn't even tragic; you get sad music for a few seconds, he tells everyone to run, his dad and friends don't even really seem concerned, and then he turns and basically dies - no tension, no drama, no emotion. Just utter crap.

Juno saves the world, but the question is, how? Why didn't she do it before when her people were still alive? Why does she look the same as before (i.e. a projection) when she is released? What is so bad about her being released? Why does Desmond have to die to release her? Why is it specifically Desmond that had to do it? How did she plan the whole thing, like seriously? The ending is abrupt - after she is released, the world is shown being surrounded by green energy for a few seconds and apparently it is saved, and then the credits roll.

Honestly, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Sometimes I wish I didn't finish any of the games; usually the plot within the game is intriguing, but the ending always spoils everything in the AC games. It completely turns me off. You can't even skip the credits, which is just a minor complaint though. Thankfully, you start back with Connor after the credits end and are free to get 100% completion from there. Thank goodness for that.

Also thought Connor would die to be perfectly honest, I was pleasantly surprised that he didn't. Also hugely surprised by the very late on 'Father and Son' missions where Connor teams up with Haytham - I actually found these encounters to be humorous and entertaining. I feel sad when Connor has to kill Haytham, though I thought they didn't do it as well as I hoped - this takes a bit of explaining. When Desmond rescues his father, there is a whole "I'd do it for you just because your my dad" message, and though it's hardly delivered all that excellently, the player immediately gets the impression that a twist on that take will happen between Connor and Haytham. They don't really pursue this, which sucks.

Also surprised Haytham wasn't the final boss. However, I really, honestly can't complain; the final stretch of missions after killing Haytham are brilliantly done, showcasing Connor and Lee in almost a grueling battle/pursuit that eclipses everything else. It is a really well done personal battle, and I guess it does fit given Lee is the one that burned down Connor's village at the start of the game (Haytham was innocent of this).

I really liked the final play between the two; Lee sits in a tavern, waiting for Connor. Both men are wounded severely. Connor sits, Lee stares at him without fear. Connor and the two look at each other for a bit after Connon pulls out a knife and places it on the table between him and Lee. Lee drinks from a wine bottle and hands it to Connor, who also drinks. The two seem to smile at each other. Connor eventually reaches his knife, slowly (wounded) pulls himself towards Lee and stabs him in the heart - Lee doesn't resist. I thought this was the best moment in the game and was fantastically done. In that sense - Connor's resolution is far better than Desmond's.

I really enjoyed the game, and found that after like 20 hours (haven't checked) I must have completely less than 50% of the whole game - despite beating the main story and most of the naval missions. There is an absolutely crazy amount of stuff you can do in this game. I had some issues with the controls, but that's mostly because of all the different things the game throws at you.

There are some very interesting sequences which I won't touch on that I think everyone will enjoy. The naval battles are every bit as good as I had hoped - they are amazing and really fun to play.

I must say that despite what most others say, I empathized with Connor far more than Ezio or Altair. I just found Connor's fight to be more important and grounded - fighting for the revolution, it really seeps through the whole game. I also find his personality more appealing; whilst Ezio will obviously appeal to most as being a badass and a rogue, Connor wins big with his selflessness and his naivety. In fact, I thought Connor was more of a badass - especially towards the end of the game, when he begins to stop taking no for an answer.

This is all from someone who has played AC1, AC2 and AC3 - I haven't touched the spin-off games.

Alright finished it last night and while i loved the game i have to say that Ubisoft really need to either pull back the reigns on all the mechanics they are putting into these Assassins Creed games OR hire better coders and designers to implement what they are doing.

They seem to go for the quantity over quality in a lot of cases like some of the trading and money making mechanics feel totally disjointed from the game and I have no idea why I need to engage in them at all outside of trying to 100% the game.

The naval stuff, characters, story and the setting to me make this game what it is, but mechanically it can be a real dogs breakfast at times. That shouldnt disuade anybody from actually picking it up and playing it though as it is still a really good game. I guess its a bit upsetting that the Assassins Creed franchise has always been filled with this amazing premise and such promise but its always let down by how rushed the final product can feel.

Perhaps Ubisoft should maybe not annualize it like they have and we would see the game match the hype. This wont happen as its already been mentioned that gamers better gear up for another Assassins Creed next year.

Regarding the endings spoiler tags to follow.

So the ending has come under a lot of duress and I can understand for somebody who has actually poured their heart and soul into Desmonds story to be disappointed but I for one am not suprised in the slightest...

Desmonds story since AC2 has been insanely convoluded, particularly to a casual player or somebody who is more interested in the Animus driven storyline. That being said anybody who didnt see Ubisoft leaving the story open ended and able to pick right up for another trilogy or even just a named sequel to AC3 are kidding themselves.

There is no way that they spend years developing an engine, build a numbered sequel using said engine, hype this game to this sh!t and then actually satisfyingly end the series. The games industry has proven to be a different beast in the past 5 years especially when dealing with Triple A titles.

The better ending was I agree with Connors story... that bar scene was amazingly done and ALMOST made me forget about that horrible chase sequence not long before it. That chase was a momentum killer when the game should have been building non stop and was actually a summary of what is wrong with the series as a whole. Some clunky mechanics and lack of direction and information all rolled up into what is the games main story creshendo... not the best way to see it out.

Also anybody else think that for a game where you play a stealthy assassin you arent really given the tools to be stealthy i.e a crouch mechanic!!!

Overall i cant disagree with many of the reviewers 8's and 8.5 out of 10... I feel a sense of calm now that the story is over and i will be doing only side stuff, naval missions and collecting and hunting... almost like i can just use the game as a peaceful retreat in some nice countryside.

Worth purchasing, YES - but wholly depending on your aversion to Assassins Creed or third person stealth games... I would say if you have never played an Assassins Creed title maybe pick up Assassins 2 or Brotherhood first to feel it done as close to perfection as the series has become.

If the setting and story sounds appealing to you though AC3 will not really disappoint.

Can someone inspire me to play through to the end and not spoil it for myself on youtube?

Without spoilers is it a satisfying ending? In regards to the whole December 21 2012 thing?

I'm up to sequence 9 now and can't be bothered and not much time on my hands, will watching on YouTube be just as good?

Ended up youtubing.. Glad I did. Some of those missions would have done my head in with the chasing and the ship battles.

What a major let down IMO. I loved the last games ending and how it was leading up to the whole December 21 2012 end of the world thing.

What a load of crap it turned out to be.

Naval battles I always found to be tense and pretty fun... but that Chase sequence holy shit... its like they sat down and said lets take everything thats bad about the games mechanics and showcase it in the final mission...

... Always good fun to jump around the back of a live theatre and then into a private box to do a dude in, and then walking out without a care in the world and without suspicion. Looking forward to spending a lot more time on this puppy this weekend.

Yeah that was a nice cinematic start to the game... Doesn't really carry on in that fashion though.

I hated how glitchy the game was and all the loading screens between cinematics, was really poorly put together.

Must admit I haven't really played a lot of AC (as in the past games)... the start where you have to jump in a white/backgroundless world, is that normal? That just seemed... weird and pointless.

Get used to it... It's the loading screen throughout the series, of which there are many. You're supposed to be in the animus as the memory is loaded.
