Nah. Matt Orford has been asking for the same thing of every club. Someone suggesting he would change that for Newcastle is being niave.

Now with this Kurt Gidley contract, it's just looking pitiful. These guys have no team spirit. It's all money money money.

I think b/c of this Kurt showed that it isnt all about money for him.

We'll see. ;-) Maybe. Even signing him for 1 year with an option if the central coast don't get a team is not a shabby plan.

How long can all this bull**!!# go on for. Andrew Johns apparenty already said he was staying, I presume that is why they couldn't afford Ben Kennedy. Is he now going back on his word. Joey! Joey! Joey!. Question is can the knights afford him, do we even want him at such a high $$ cost and the loss of other players that may have to go because we have to keep him and exactly how many games has he played in the last couple of seasons anyway? I thought the world of the Knights & Joey Johns but I believe he may have screwed the club and other players by not making a decision and sticking to it. It must be a tough decision and although many people may think it's just about the money it might be even tougher than that ,loyalty to club and fans or the glory of the world cup. :?: :? :(

I would think that Kurt's contract is still for the Knights, I'm thinking it would just mean he can negotiate more money now.
I couldn't see the Knights being that stupid and not having a clause saying he re-negotiate his money, but is still stay at Newcastle.

The clause is about an upgrade in his money, he thought he was doing the right thing so Johns could be retained. Misplaced loyalty.

That he has...bye bye Orford...

From the Melbourne Storm Website:

ORFORD AGREES TO ONE-YEAR DEAL WITH STORM
Jun 23, 2004

Melbourne Storm has received a boost ahead of its clash with the New Zealand Warriors this Saturday night, after dynamic halfback Matt Orford agreed to terms for a new one-year deal tonight.
After weeks of speculation Orford agreed to terms this evening in a deal that will keep the 26-year-old in Melbourne until the end of next year at least.

The Storm No.7 is enjoying another stellar season this year and was unlucky to miss out on representing New South Wales in last week's State of Origin II after staring for the City Origin side earlier this year.
"I was keen to stay here (in Melbourne) it was always my first option," Orford said.

"But you always have to try and look after yourself and make sure you're doing the right thing for your football career in the long run and hopefully I've done that so I'm happy."

Orford is looking forward to being part of what he believes will be a bright future ahead in Melbourne.

"I think the club's doing well, we've got some really good young talent here and the coach has come in and turned the place around," he added.
"I'm happy to be a part of it and if it is going to go somewhere I'd like to be a part of that too.

"It (negotiations) dragged on a little longer than we thought it would but it was always going to be an important decision and I wasn't going to rush it.

"It's all turned out well and now I can get on with footy.
"I'm taking a bit of a gamble with a one-year deal and backing myself because I just feel like I want to challenge myself.
"I think every year I'm going to get better and better and there's no harm in backing yourself for a good season and then putting yourself on the market."

I heard on the news down here some one trashed his car............. now that is sure a good way to keep him in Newcastle.
And God bless Rugby Union, they can't develop their own so they steal ours, however what goes round comes round........Stuart........Lewis......Price, just a few, played for Australia in Union before being lured to League

As Tyne'e said -- that's exactly the problem.... people are already giving him hell.

I'm probably one of the few rugby league supporters in Newcastle who:
a) doesn't know where Johns lives (I know he's in Mereweather, but don't know a street or house number, like most people it seems)

b) has no desire to know where he lives -- why would you care?

In any case, Johns is following the money and looking for a better lifestyle away from the minority who cause him trouble in Newcastle -- I hope he enjoys his $600,000 in Union -- that's a mighty salary for a player who is more than likely going to be warming the bench with crutches by his side.

The facts of life are hard to take sometimes.

I'm with you. I love watching these players on a footy feild and don't mind an autograph at the Christmas party or after match functions.
However I don't care where they live, I don't want to know.... That's their personal lives.
However you have to know that there are people out there who want to know all your buisness. I think even if Joey goes to Sydney it's still not going to be any better, people will still find out where he lives.

i dont live in newcaslte but if i did i wouldnt want to know where he lives.

my friends aunty lives behind joey and she told my friend that there is constantly groups of people hanging around outside his house, trying to catch a glimpse of him or talk to him. i think thats horrible! imagine having people standing outsde your house trying to peep in.
matty johns also said that people also slow drive past his house and that he has had to get his phone number changed a few times b/c people ring up and scream stuff into the phone about how they love him and the knights.

its people liek that who make it hard on high profile athletes to lead normal lives.
i dont know why people cant understand that their private lives are private!
