these guys are awesome i reckon. they are the most original punk rock band around. i only started listening to them about a month ago and now im hooked. arc arsenal is the best punk song song ive heard in forever.
anyone else rate them?

Yes, i don't think i would consider them punk rock though. Its a huge shame they have broken up.

The Mars Volta are worth a listen, probably not as good as ATDI but still plenty of talent there.

i cant think of what else to classify them. they are more punk than anything else and when i listen to JJJ they refer to them as punk rock and they get some play on short fast and loud and thats a punk rock show on JJJ. mars volta go alright.

Some people would class them as emocore or even screamo.

But i agree that 'Relationship of Command' along with
Refused's 'the shape of punk to come' would have to be 2 of the most original punk albums in a while.

At the drive were great. It's a shame that a few of them never got on well otherwise we would have more of their albums to listen to. :(

At the Big Day Out in Sydney a few years back, they were probably the band i was most looking forward to seeing, but after a few songs they stormed off stage.

The Mars Volta put on a great show at this year's BDO they just jam on stage, One of the best live acts i've seen in a while.

I've got "Relationship of Command".

It's tops! 8)

They're not punk. I would class them as a heavier version of Muse.

debating a category for each band can go on for ever,

bottom line is these guys rock.

I've got most of thier songs

I caught Spata at Livid, only because I am an ATDI fan, but they just are not as good.

Like comparing Audioslave to RATM.

you cant beat the originals

That show even though it went for 15mins. was great, too bad the crowd pissed them off.

They have 4 albums and an ep, all are pretty good.

What a horrible insult to an amazing band. Isn't 'Invalid Little Dept' like the best song ever? :D

Wasn't meant as an insult mate, I love both bands!

That's a good song, but I love the last song, Catacombs. The guy sounds like he's about to burst an artery... "This gravity is a quadriplegic horse and carriage..."

They are great, but no where near as good as The Mars Volta IMO, so I'm glad they're broken up because TMV are amazing. De-Loused in the Comatorium was my favourite album of 2003, and they were amazing when I saw them at the Metro in Sydney this year. So much improvisation. 6 songs in one and half hours. My jaw was on the floor the hole time.

Heh. Sparta are touring with Blink 182 now... :? But I'm not a fan if them anyway. I heard a fine quote: "Mars Volta make At the Drive-In sound like Sparta". haha.

GO LISTEN TO THE MARS VOLTA!!!

Im more of a Sparta fan then i am a Mars Volta fan, ive seen both bands, and whilst the Mars Volta were great, Sparta were just a little more accessible...plus, it's hard to dance to the Mars Volta

Yes, you'd have to epileptic to dance to TMV. Still didn't stop some idiots trying to mosh to it at the gig.

ATD-I were a great band. It's a shame that the boys with the big hair decided their ego's were bigger than their musical talent and they were too good for the other members...The Mars Volta has been utter crap really. Sparta's first album was really OK and now they have completed the sell-out by touring with Blink 182 this September...

'Relationship of Command' would be in my top ten albums ever - an amazing piece of work.

^ utter crap??? Different strokes for different folkes I suppose. TMV > ATDI for me... Absolutely amazing album IMO. And Omar and Cedric said that ATDI was just "white boy rock" anyway. They weren't happy, and TMV is very different and amazing.
