How frustrated would this young lad be!!!
Introduced into first grade last year when it was too late to make the finals. However made a big enough impression to be given a never heard of 4 year contract! at the Eels.
Not given a chance to back up his impressive debut season when the side is at full strength early in the season and told he needs to work on elements of his game by head coach! Is thrown into our perms side which absolutely dominated the comp early season.
Is overseen at critical time in our season for Thorman to play in games we were favorites to win. EG: Sharks, Cowboys, Saints.
Is eventually thrown into the red hot pot when team is in dire straights for a first up victory against Newcastle, however is to be suspended from this game for a suspect dangerous throw charge
Returns from suspension in must win game against the premiers Penrith at Penrith. Which unfortunately he put in a sub standard game on his standards. Then goes across the tasman to be partnered with Thorman in a last ditch attempt to find some attacking flare which the side has been tragically missing for as long as I wish to remember, plays a solid game in disgusting conditions without the support of a go forward pack!!

Now come this time last year I was extremely sceptical about Wittys game, but given 12 months I am now one of his greatest fans and cannot believe the raw deal he has got!

Next year he will be 21 and for mine ready to put his own touch on our side. I am totally confident that Witty is our half back that we have been waiting so long for. Lets just pray he is given his fair chance which has evaded him to now!!!!!

Glad you're sticking by him Freak, unlike other supporters. Witt should be playing halfback.

How is he not that good?

Even the Queensladers rated him highly enough to put him in their train on squad for the Maroons at the beginning of the year!

I think Witty is one of the better running half-backs in the league

I also think that, given game time, he will adjust to playing first grade and will be able to run the team around the paddock - especially under the tuition of one of the better halfs in that aspect (JT).

I don't care what happens the rest of this year, I'm just looking forward to Witt and Morris in the halves next year!

Why? He is not that good.

What are you basing this judgement on?

His wining form in first grade late last year or his winning form in Prems early this year?

He probably has the best win/loss percentage of any player in our top 25 over the last 2 seasons, with probably NH!.

Witt hasn't been given a real chance to play halfback this year and I think it is one of the worst things Brian Smith has done this year. Witt was thrown into an underperforming side last year and played very well. His short kicking game was great and we scored plenty of tries off it. He wasn't perfect and had his off days, but for a young player put in such a pressure position in a poor side, he couldn't have done a hell of a lot more.

He should have been given first shot at halfback this year, but Brian Smith felt that not to be in the team's best interests, for whatever reason. I think Witt's confidence has taken a bit of hit due to his coach's lack of faith, but I'm sure if he has a few games in row at halfback (not 5/8) he'll get it back.

The amount of games Thorman played and we won in premier league is about the same. BTW one player doesn't win a game and Premier League is going well this year regardless of whether he plays or not.

How's Thormans Win/Loss record in first grade????

Played against Cowboys, Melbourne, Dragons, Tigers and then Warriors.

Played 5, won 0, lost 5. A bit like Steve Crouch last year.

I'm sticking by Witt

and I'm basing my claim that he is a good player on the fact that he helped to dig the team out of a similar quandry last year and score tries, set up tries, kick goals and ultimately win games

if he is "allowed" to play halfback he will shine

Wrong again. Sure give him a chance but our problem is our go forward and structure in defence. They will not be fixed by Witt at halfback.

How can you know that? (unless you can predict the future)

Yes our problem is go forward BUT... a halfback leads the play around so it CAN be fixed by Witt at halfback. Witty was named in that QLD train on squad (probably thinking he could play halfback) and just wait if he is given the oppurtunity he could excel at halfback at Parra (we've seen it before)...maybe even for QLD!

Unless Witt forces the team to play a different style in attack and defense I am correct. I would love to seeit happen though.

i'm not saying that is the only problem, but it is a major one

but of course the forwards have to have a go, thats frickin obvious!!!!!!!!!!

To win a game:

Forwards need to go forward, and work hard in defence.

Backs need to be creative, halves have a good kicking game. Defence too.

Theyre the two most important in winning a game. Cant just say Witt wont win us any games, cause he wont if the forwards arent doing any work.
