For weeks now, the bloke has been like a mangy dog that won't let go... and you can be sure that he'll be at it for weeks to come.
Maybe not that long.

You started getting uptight about it in the days leading up to the new TFR being opened.. officially it was May 24th but we had some trials going on a few days before.

Quotes from C.S., LWOS:
May 20th: I can't help thinking that part of the slowdown here is due to the managers/regulars spending more time with the Front Row/League Unlimited.
May 21st:
I still prefer LWOS...
May 22nd:
But as a forum, I think LWOS is better than Front Row, it just seems easier to get around in, and not so chopped up into sections as Front Row is.

And this was before TFR even kicked off. We have to be pretty stupid if we didnt get the message the first 10 times but here it is, the 7th of June and you're still plugging the same rhetoric.

I have explained our position a dozen times to him but to no avail.
So if you explain your position enough times, then the person has to come around and agree with it?

Wrong... I was never trying to make you agree with me. I was answering your questions... the same questions, over and over. There might have been a slightly different spin on the nature of the question but it always came back to the same thing that you didn't like the change. Crikey... as if we didn't know.

When you started raising your 'concerns' I said, Its not a battle between the two boards.... its a personal choice. I still stand by that, It's shame that you haven't quite worked that out yet.

Now here's a first. I have a question for you Steve. Why do you think we set up TFR? Do you think there is some ulterior motive or something slightly sinister going on?

Willow, thanks for the answer in post 20. If I may follow up:

By provider, I assume you mean League Unlimited. Our Internet Service Provider costs money but thats for the whole website: LU, the tipping comp, the chat room, the live updates etc... and TFR.

I don't know anything about the business end of it. Does your ISP cost a lot of money? Who's paying for it, the managers as a group? Are you making any of it back, and if so, how? If any of those questions are none of my business, just say so, no offense. I recall you saying something here a while back about how you planned to make money from it, but I forget.

No thats allright. It's no secret that the site is underwritten by Legend and Myself. We take turns at paying for things... the frequency of these turns have closer together for some time now. ;)
But you'll never hear us complaining about it. I have little time for people who do something they enjoy and then start moaning about their sacrifices.

We also make no secret that LU is a commercial site. WhenLeg and I first talked about it in 2001, we both agreed on this fact. There are 7 of us now and each person is considered as part-owner of the site... we can all see the potential and are keen to see LU benefit as many people as possible.
Some sites say they are not commecial and yet make money... other sites claim to be commercial and lose money.LOL... LU falls into the latter category.

I can anticipate your next question... 'how long will LU lose money before we pull the plug...? The answer is that we have a number of offers in the wings which will see LU become self sufficient before the end of the year. Can't say anymore than that.

Bronco:They haven't been moaning for a good couple of weeks now about how they don't like this and that.
Okay, 2 weeks then. Time flies when you're having fun.
You have been clawing at any little resemblance of a fault you can find. All you've succeeded in doing so is to piss a few people off.
I'd say those people are too easily pissed off. Who cares what I say?
If you had your way we'd all come back and play happy families.
Yes, at first. I've since said several times that I know that's not gonna happen. BTW, see my post on the new LWOS section at TFR.
No new members would ever join up because that would unsettle the perfect little world we'd have going. No I never said that. All I really ever said said was I prefer the actual look, feel, and features of MSN to the TFR format. In spite of you guys telling me all the superior features of TFR, I still feel at home with this format. Even so, I'm catching on to some of the TFR functions.
BTW, if you want to see a perfect little world of a forum, check out KRL. It has no new members, and no new posts. Actually, I'm thankful no one has rubbed that in my face in this discussion.;)

The only word I've thought of when reading your posts over the last couple of weeks is childish and thats coming from a 17yo. Only childish, not funny, clever, poignant, none of those? Actually,I think my reaction was not so much childish, as that of an older guy not wanting to change after becoming set in his internet ways. Much like Lord Ted expressed earlier, except as you and Willow point out, I've expressed it more times.

Willow: When you started raising your 'concerns' I said, Its not a battle between the two boards.... its a personal choice. I still stand by that, It's shame that you haven't quite worked that out yet. Of course it's a personal choice. But one of the points I was making was that the choices made to move to TFR have left LWOS a bit depleted. Not a "battle", but one affects the other. I know we've been over this ground already - but I have worked it out, I do get it.

Now here's a first. I have a question for you Steve. Why do you think we set up TFR? Do you think there is some ulterior motive or something slightly sinister going on? Yikes, a question for me. What do I do now?

No, nothing sinister. I'm sure your reason are as you've stated, things to do with a better format (in your opinions), more control, the logic of having a forum with LU, etc.

I will say this: back when you first started talking about LU and TFR (in its earlier incarnations), I remember checking them out briefly and saying on LWOS I didn't like them as much. (I'm sure that old thread could be found here, and it wasn't just me saying it.) I also remember thinking that eventually these guys are going to leave LWOS and go to their new playground. As the buildup to the latest TFR got bigger and bigger, I sensed it was going to happen. And when I was away from LWOS for a couple of weeks, and came back to find it largely deserted, I didn't like that. Now, I think you must have also known the move to TFR was going to damage LWOS - I think you said as much recently on TFR (and that you felt sad about it.)

That's not an ulterior motive, not sinister. But you also have made statements about how LWOS would always be here. And then you said something on TFR about how the "old boat" wasn't doing well, and what a shame it was. That just struck me the wrong way, as if you were saying what a shame when you knew full well the reason for it. Let me say now that that's what I felt at the time of reading your statement - I have since read your numerous clarifications and understand where you were coming from.

Can you see where I was coming from? (Even if I have talked about it way too many times)

No, my next question was, how can I buy in, and do you accept Canadian dollars or do you want dirty Yankee money?

CS,
The crew that have set up league unlimited are pretty smart.
Folks,congratulations.
What a bloody great idea.
Being able to attend business meetings in whatever city that just so happens to have a game on.
Flying all round the countryside watching footy and legitimatelyclaiming travel expenses as a tax deduction.
Then being able to come home and talk to people about the game via your own cyberspace site.
The anarchist and the capitalist combining entrepreneurial skills so that I pay for their hobbies.
Boys, I am in awe, that is fantastic.
Now there is a commercial reality for you.

The above was an example of dry Australian humour.
You know, observation aligned with a touch of envy.

Personally, I wish your venture every success.
Hope it makes you a motza.

I don't know who here has heard of Mark Cuban. He's the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA franchise. He's a fairly young guy who made his fortune by developing a way to put radio stations on the internet, then selling the business to Yahoo or someone like that for about $5 billion. I may have the details wrong, but something like that.

I foresee a similar future for our friends. Build LU up into the best league website going, get bought out by News Ltd,, and make enough of a fortune for Willow to buy the Dragons and Legend the Raiders. Or maybe get so much influence that Rupert makes them co-commissioners of the NRL. (I know commissioners is the wrong title, but you know what I mean). And then won't they look back and laugh at the poor small-thinking whiners who dared to criticize their vision.

Hey, maybe I really should invest in LU while it's still affordable.

CS,
You should invest while the exchange rate is in your favour.
And you couldn't have Willow buying the Dragons,he'd bring back Willie Peters and really f**k the show.
Legend can buy the Raiders, but no one will care.
Steve,
I had better take your advice and invest some as well.
But I am buying the judiciary and here comes a Dragons premiership.

LOL... Willie Peters again...
For the record, if Lord Ted owned the Dragons he'd have Keiran Kerr at scrum base. :D

btw Steve.. we still have teams here who are club-based and in theory at least, are owned by the club members. That doesn't iclude SL 'clubs' like Melbourne or Brisbane who are 'owned' by the highest bidder.

What joy it was this week to see Broncos players being threatened with monetary fines if they dared to utter the words 'Lang Park' instead of 'Suncorp Stadium' when being interviewed.

With your money, you'll buy out the club members and own the team anyway.
