Isnt it generally the experienced ref controlling with the inexperienced guy the 'pocket ref' anyway? as it seemed to be yesterday? The only other real option is what we had before this, where when the inexperienced ref started in the top grade it was pretty much all him. I think this system is better.
Unfortunately experienced people start off inexperienced, and we are always going to have inexperienced refs (and sh*t calls for that matter).
No, the two refs take full control of the game at differing intervals throughout the game, which is why the more inexperienced ref was in a position to make a wrong call to cause this thread.
I know that all experienced refs started off inexperienced but like I said give them experience controlling toyota cup, give them experience assisting the main referee in nrl games, but dont give such an important and difficult job to them when they are not ready.
