Auckland 9s in Jeopardy?

RL is the ADHD kid of the sport world, must change things every couple of years. God forbid we should actually have successful events we build a heritage and long term calendar around!

If SOO had started up couple of years ago people would be bored of it by now and asking whats the point.
ADHD....maybe thats what I got.
Make it 7 a side and invite the Super Rugby teams from New Zealand and Australia and I bet it would back out Auckland, Brisbane and SFS on rotating years.

How about we use the awareness that the Auckland 9's brought to the shorter form of the game and just make it a comp for international teams from now on.

The RLIF is already looking at a world cup, lets make the Auckland (or where ever it's going to be next) 9's the first even in what will eventually be an international 9's circuit. If the NRL clubs sook about it then just pick the Aus & NZ teams straight out of QLD / NSW Cup. It would probably make for a more entertaining tournament anyway.

Eventually when there is a descent circuit the 9's would have their own contracted players. I know without the starts it would struggle for attention and crowds initially but I'm sure Fox League would cover it in Australia and let's face it, at some stage the 9's version will have to stop using NRL players just as Rugby 7's and increasingly T20 cricket have specialist players for that form of the game.

I think the biggest issue is that people think they must have 7 players from the clubs hest 13 a side team

Let clubs choose anyone from their 36 man squad

I think this was missed during the week but essentially the 9’s are dead. Looking at an international end of year tournament instead.

I think it’s a damn shame. I loved the 9’s opening the season

2019 season calendar https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/08/14/2019-season-calendar/

Except that the NRL should not be involved, I think that is a good thing since the NRL clubs were ruining Nines.
Just leave the whole concept to International Rugby League.

I like it as well - great fun attacking footy just when I’m craving a new season. And usually a bit of exposure to the up and comers across all teams

Tinker with it, give it to different cities, let some NSW Cup teams enter a team but don’t get rid of it entirely

Was fun whilst it lasted. World Nines won’t happen. What player is going to cut short their leave period for a Nines Comp and do we really want the very small test match period we have taken up with Nines?

The Nines are a fantastic bit of fun and potentially a great tool too assist in growing the game in expansion areas.
So knowing the NRL, we'll probably never see it again.

I really enjoyed it as well, a good way to open the season with all clubs in one place. Bring it back in Brisbane & then rotate it around Australia/NZ every year.

Shame if they casted the nines aside. Good fun to start the season whilst giving exposure to aspiring players.

I’d prefer 9’s over all stars, but I know the importance of this game to the indigenous people

Why does League have 9 players in this form of the game when Union has 7, taking into account Union has 15 normally as opposed to League's 13?

The good news for Rugby League is that word is coming out of B-League sources that B-League is taking over Nines. If there is one thing B-League knows it is how to get things done right.

I honestly don’t see the obsession that some people have with 9’s. Especially international 9’s. Let’s concentrate on developing the 13 aside format 1st.

It’s entertaining, is perfect to create a big weekend event and is actually a good for format to develop the game in new countries. It could als eventually be a commonwealth and Olympic sport if the game took it seriously enough.
