What about qld? It's humid as hell up here? Can't be worse than that can it?
Not trying to have a big-dick contest, I'm just genuinely intrigued by the idea of a day being so humid that 24 degrees is uncomfortable.

I was just reading the auckland 9s wikipedia page to find out the date of it and I noticed it says the clubs will send 12 of the top 24 players and "at least" one "marquee" player?
I can see this being a big case of "where's such and such?" and "who the f is that?" and "you call HIM a marquee player? gtfo". I mean marquee player is open to a lot of interpretation, and I just see a lot of people skipping this.

500 000 is the prize for the winning team, for starters how many people is that money divided between? All staff or the 12 players? And that's just the winning team. What does everyone else get? Nothing?
Most won't consider it worth it.

 not sure you understand this whole deal very well, particularly considering you only recently posted your belief the NRL are running this.

The guidelines for 12/24 top players are the MINIMUM required. Most (possibly all) clubs will be sending stronger than required squads as they want the glory and $$ from winning this.

I'm sure there will be some elite level players rested or injured or considered too high risk for this tournament, but I am also certain we will see 16 high quality squads roll out, simply because clubs want to win it.

The prize money goes to the winning CLUB. The CLUB employs the players and will dictate who is playing.

Big ticket sales; big players repping it; big excitement. It's going to be awesome.

No it's not THAT much...

It's only 5 times as much money as the minor premiership winner gets....

And $100K more than the premiers get... for 2 days work...

Another fail aye Tone...

Lmfao... You are seriously geniused...

You don't think the promoters would have safeguarded their investment and defined what a 'Marquee' player was in the contract.

There needs to be 12 of the top 24 in the squad... Including 1 of the top 5 salary earners.

and here are the host clubs (no Mt Albert or Northcote ???)

The NRL's intention to up its profile in New Zealand has taken a step forward with a ground-breaking "grass roots" initiative around the Auckland Nines tournament.
Auckland mayor Len Brown took a welcome break from politics yesterday to announce the community plan involving all 16 NRL clubs partnering up with Auckland Rugby League clubs for the inaugural tournament at Eden Park on February 15-16.
The mayor revealed a schedule which sees the Gold Coast Titans travelling to the Hibiscus Coast Raiders in the north, the Canterbury Bulldogs to the Pakuranga Jaguars in the east, the Melbourne Storm to the Manurewa Marlins in the south and the North Queensland Cowboys to the Glenora Bears in the west.
The teams competing in the Nines will visit their club during the week of the event.
League ambassador Sir Peter Leitch was happy to learn Ivan Cleary's Penrith Panthers had been chosen as the NRL club to visit his Mangere East Hawks. The Panthers have a host of New Zealand players in their ranks including new signing Elijah Taylor plus Lewis Brown, Isaac John and Dean Whare.
The Storm's trip to the southern-most club chosen for the initiative means Manurewa juniors Jesse and Kenny Bromwich could return to their old club.
The Warruiors have been paired with Marist Saints club which has produced several club players including Motu Tony, Jerome Ropati, Sonny Bill Williams and Roy Asotasi.
This year's NRL champions the Roosters have been paired with their Auckland counterparts at Te Atatu.
"To have the stars of our game at local league grounds is huge for grass roots rugby league and I know the clubs want to provide a unique experience for each team," ARL chairman Dene Biddlecombe said.
Rachael Carroll, the general manager destination and marketing for ATEED (the Super City's events arm), said the Nines would drive huge economic benefits for the city and "become an economic anchor over time".
NRL and ARL pairings and club visit times (all Thursday, Feb 13 unless otherwise stated):
Brisbane Broncos-Point Chevalier Pirates; Walker Park, Point Chevalier, 4.30-6.30pm.
Canberra Raiders-Bay Roskill Vikings; Blockhouse Bay Reserve, Blockhouse Bay, 6-8pm.
Canterbury Bulldogs-Pakuranga Jaguars; Ti Takau Park, Pakuranga, 6.30-8pm.
Cronulla Sharks-Otahuhu Leopards; Bert Henham Park, Mt Wellington, 4-6pm.
Manly Sea Eagles-Richmond Rovers; Grey Lynn Park, Grey Lynn, 5-7pm.
Melbourne Storm-Manurewa Marlins; Mountfort Park, Manurewa, 5-7pm.

Newcastle Knights-Ellerslie Eagles; Ellerslie Domain, Ellerslie, 6-8pm.
North Queensland Cowboys-Glenora Bears; Harold Moody Park, Glen Eden, 4-6pm.
Parramatta Eels-Papatoetoe Panthers; Kohuora Park, Papatoetoe, 4.30-6.30pm.
Penrith Panthers-Mangere East Hawks; Walter Massey Park, Mangere East, 5-7pm.
South Sydney Rabbitohs-Glenfield Greyhounds; Sunnynook Park, Glenfield, 5-7pm.
St George Dragons-Otara Scorpions; Ngati Otara Park, Otara, 4.45-6.45pm.
Sydney Roosters-Te Atatu Roosters; Jack Colvin Park, Te Atatu, 5.30-7.30pm.
Warriors-Marist Saints; Murray Halberg Park, Mount Albert, 4-6pm.
Wests Tigers-Manukau Magpies; Moyle Park, Mangere, 4.30-6.30pm.
Gold Coast Titans-Hibiscus Coast Raiders; Stanmore Bay Park, Stanmore, 4pm-6pm, Wednesday, February 12.

Could be an eye opener for the Dragons players lol

Sydney Roosters legend Brad Fittler is coming out of retirement to play for the club in next month's Auckland Nines.
The former NSW and Australian skipper confirmed on Thursday he would be dusting off his boots to play in the inaugural pre-season tournament to be held at Eden Park on February 15 and 16.
Fittler's last professional game of footy was the Roosters' loss to the Bulldogs in the 2004 grand final.
He was approached by Roosters powerbrokers late last year, and has been doing some intensive training to be fit for the tournament.
Fittler, 41, is one of the Roosters' favourite sons and led them to the 2002 premiership victory over the Warriors.
He has pulled on the boots twice since retiring: for NSW in a charity match and for the Classic Wallabies in the World Rugby Classic in Bermuda in November 2012.

Not a fan of that from the Roosters. I dare say they've put the cue in the rack already as far as trying to win the 9s.

The Great Man will play...

Sydney Roosters superstar Sonny Bill Williams is set to play in the NRL Auckland Nines next month, in a huge boost to the fledgling tournament.
Just five days after rugby league great Brad Fittler announced he was coming out of retirement to compete in the inaugural edition of the two-day event, the former Kangaroos skipper said he was anticipating lining up beside dual international Williams.
The inclusion of Williams in the Roosters' side for the Nines would dramatically increase the tournament's profile given the former Rugby World Cup winner's global profile.
In an interview with the Big Sports Breakfast on Tuesday Fittler, 41, said he would be looking to Williams to compensate for his own defensive frailties.
"He'll be defending on my side," Fittler said.
"And I've lined up a young kid Dylan Napa for the other side ... run at me at your own peril."
With Williams eyeing off a spot in the New Zealand side at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, where rugby union sevens will make its Games debut, the nine-a-side rugby league tournament could provide valuable experience for the two-time NRL premiership winner.
Williams' inclusion would also indicate the Roosters' serious intention to add the Nines trophy to their 2013 NRL premiership and possibly the World Club Challenge trophy.
The match against Super League champions Wigan will be played at Allianz Stadium the weekend after the Auckland Nines.
Fittler's return from retirement has already increased interest in the tournament to be held at Eden Park on February 15 and 16.
The former Roosters skipper is expecting a tough time upon his return to rugby league.
"I'm expecting to get hurt, it's just the level of hurt," Fittler said.
Williams will return to Roosters training on Monday with the majority of the club's World Cup stars.

What's the structure of Nines? Five forwards and four backs?

Why did League choose nine as opposed to Union's seven, was it just to distinguish itself?

Read and weep Oz!
Typical SBW.

Sonny Bill Williams now looks set to skip the Auckland Nines, only hours after speculation to the contrary.

The fledgling tournament appeared to have been granted a huge boost by securing Williams' services, but his manager has now said the code-hopper will not join his Sydney Roosters teammates next month at Eden Park.
