Jesus Christ you are an imbecile Locky.

"my problem with O'Keefe is that he consistently takes heaps of wickets at a great rate at the level directly below test level, but he clearly won't be a good test player, because reasons."

What you know about cricket could be written on the back of a stamp.

He bowls round arm. It works at Shield level where batsmen don't have the same patience to wait for the bad ball. Unlikely to be as successful in test cricket, and as much as I care very little for Lyon....until a legspinner comes through (Boyce for instance), lets just play Lyon. He is doing decently considering off spin is a very tough gig in an Australian side.

If anyone's playing for Australia in the future from this lot its Marcus Stoinis, his batting is getting better and better since he started to bat in the top 3 for Plodtoria.

Rule number 1: Don't pick Victorians unless they are actually good!

Rule Number 2: Don't pick Victorians!

If in doubt refer to rules 1 and 2.

Stonis is just Andrew McDonald MKII...good State cricketer.

He actually bows over the top and pulls down on the ball which is how he gets his spin and he bowls more at say Vetori's than Lyon's pace so he pushes them through more than Lyon, so yeh, pretty much opposite to what you said.

The fact that he doesn't flight them so much like Lyon, is why he does so well in India's low flat pitches.

Also, get over the obsession with leg spinners. A mediocre legspinner is a liability as they give you too many gifts. Guys like Warne and MacGill are once in 30 year prospects.

and SOK got 8 for the match, not bad when you consider we only took 18 for the match

But Twizzle, his round-arm style is only successful on Australian pitches against Sheffield Shield calibre batsmen.

If he was bowling on the subcontinent against guys who've played tests he'd be useless!

There are plenty of bowlers who have great first class records and have not performed in test cricket and have not been good enough for test cricket.

Say Ben Cutting, who (until recently) regularly performed well in first class/list A but clearly was advantaged by playing worse batsmen. His bowling was based pretty much on pace without much else to it, and against better batsmen it's been shown as dead average. Copeland, Sayers are guys who didn't or wouldn't look great despite very good first class records. Because pitches are designed to last longer and batsmen are better.

Whereas say Hazlewood you could see, even when not getting results, bowled in a way that would translate well to international cricket.

Now is So'K unfortunate to have not played more international cricket? Yes. Look at some of the others who have played in the 8 years or so post-Warne. I think when they were in India in 2013 would've been the time to play him, as mentioned it's where his style would work.

But he doesn't do a heap, not much turn, flight, drift. Hurries batsmen a bit. His record though is, I think, much better than his actual ability. I can certainly see why he hasn't played more test cricket.

But I guess he hasn't really had the chance. Lyon has done a good job and hence has kept his spot.

He's almost a clone of Herath though. Lack of action on the ball hasn't stopped him being one of the dominant spinners of the last five years.
