Australia and New Zealand withdraw from RLWC

Different psyche, NRL is a local league, people wanted some live sport to watch on TV, on a weekly basis, we're talking about sending ppl to the other side of the planet, that's going to increase anxiety. Totally different Matter.
So yes or no are the AB's and Wallaby's touring the UK this October?
Have a lot of games in the Euros been held in the UK this year?
Did the Kiwi Cricket team play England in a test series this year?
Where did the winner of this years women's single winner come from and where is she now?
Have NZ and Australia have teams at the Olympics?
Are Australia send a touring Cricket team to Bangladesh this year?

Gould being his usual dckhead self. Take away Australian pokies and see how strong player development is here.

What an arrogant, entitled view on things. Phil Gould is pure trash and an aweful dinosaur.
The NRL does contain most of the worlds best players and is the premier competition, however that is not the argument.
Australia does nothing to promote the game internationally. We barely even play the Kiwis anymore.
Australia has only been bothered to play 4 test matches since the last World Cup final for a combined effort of 4 weeks. That’s 4 weeks dedicated to the international game in 4 years..
They have become so rusty that their winning percentage since said WC final is just 50%.
Gould needs to remove his head from his anus and understand that playing for your country is the pinnacle. I wonder what the current Kangaroo side looks like minus the Polynesian players? I doubt they make the WC final this year had they decided to play.

The RU teams aren't up here for that long, and I'm sure they'll be staying in larger more expensive hotels. The WHO and many politicians were disgusted by the crowds during the soccer Euros. The Euros have been responsible for an increase in the number of cases. Been 100+ cases in the Olympic village, but again they are being well catered for in Japan. The RFL/IRL will not be able to look after the Kiwi and Oz teams as well as any other team sport. But as I've said, I think a team form Oz will play at the WC.

Reasonable people would have ensured there was no need for a breakaway code in the north of England in 1895.

Nor would they have inflicted a form of apartheid for 100 years thereafter.
Sheesh dude, it's been over a hundred years - holding a grudge like this just isn't good for you.

The difference between RL and these other sports is that in the other sports international contests are the biggest show in town, where all the money is made. That is not the case with RL. The money is made in the NRL competition and they won't jeopardise that for a World Cup. Yes I know dollars are being put first, but that is the case with soccer, rugby and cricket as well.

We all know this - we’re just wondering why your leaders don’t have the balls to say it is just about money and instead hide behind a last second Covid withdrawal (after reciving all the assurances they asked for and without consulting the players who can choose to waive two weeks of holiday to represent their country in the WC - and indeed want to do so going by Daly Cherry Evans's latest comments).

Seriously - you NRL fans who are swallowing this hook line and sinker really do need to wise up to what this move is doing to the International game.

My understanding of it is that players would need to quarantine on return, then have their mandatory leave, then wait 2 weeks to join the bubble, meaning they cannot train for 2022 season until 2 weeks before it starts, which is completely unsatisfactory. All after having been in the bubble all this season. Eight weeks leave is something they fought for, on the grounds that they needed it for their own welfare.

I'd love to watch a World Cup but it clearly isn't possible under the present conditions.

That is surely nonsense - the RLPA has already said that there are agreements for players to forego two weeks of the mandatory leave. And why would they need to "wait" 2 weeks to join a bubble having just quarantined? Sounds like the sort of exaggeration people use to support a flimsy position.

Let's put it another way - if a player was coming back from injury and volunteered to return to pre-season two weeks early to do extra work - do you reckon the NRL club would be saying "absolutely not, this is a mandatory rest period and we will have you nowhere near the club, even though it would help us and you formally waived your mandatory leave rights" . . . . .

Rep sportsmen usually have the longest seasons. It's true in all sports that have post-season internationals. Indeed it's already true that play-off decided sports the succesful athletes have less rest. That's just the way it is and the clubs should be honoured to have the top athletes on their rosta and if that means giving them an extra week or two rest through the season then so be it.
