Delusional, completely incorrect, backwards looking rubbish, stop derailing international threads with imaginary ramblings about club sides.

So what your really saying is, its no ok for the ARL / NRL to be half heated with the international gam. (Which I agree with by the way)

But it is ok for the Roosters to only look out for themselves and subsequently shit on rugby league if that is the cost at every opportunity. Because you support the side.

Come on, wake up.

No, I'm saying your views on what the Roosters do or don't do have no basis in reality and certainly no place in the international forum.

Thank you for your opinion.

To be clear though, if you are unable to see the dramatic shortcomings your club has when it comes to the wellbeing and promotion of Rugby League, you are in no way in a decent position to comment about what the ARL or NRL do no matter how right you may be.

Until you can see the major shortcomings of the roosters when it comes to rugby league, any comment against what the ARL or NRL do just makes you a hypocrite.

But by all means continue complaining.

Siv,
How many Rugby Union tests in a calendar year. I have no idea, but it must be a lot as according to World Rugby there will be 76 tests in November. That gives us some idea of what to aim for.

Thee are dozens of RL tests every year, we just don't hear about them.

There is quite a bit of interest in international basketball. I would love RL to have a World Cup (Championship in Bball) with as many viewers, spectators, sponsors and participation as FIBA have. It is also an Olympic sport.

My point though is that the popularity of the FIBA world championship is not affected one bit by the utter domination of team USA - I think they've lost twice... ever

Olympic sports that include walking, synchronised swimming, rugby, tennis.

I am sure that international basket ball is at least watched.

However, like English football
supporters... (soccer) .....Ask 10,000 poms do they want their ELP team to win the premiership.... or do they hope more that their national soccer team wins something.

It will be 95 to 5 in favour of their own EPL team.

International basketball is watched on Tele, but the interest in it was dead set very low key when I was in the states and Europe.

Rugby league won't ever be able to attract wide spread support.

I mean really, it's only played in the eastern states of Australia, in NZ it's a far second to union, in England it's very limited to some towns, in France it's laughable, then we have the Pacific islands.

But that's ok, we love it.

We need to stop being rugby league snobs ! If it's not the nrl or superleague people think it's subpar and refuse to watch or enjoy lower levels of the sport. Even some of us the hardcore fans who post here, continue to find negatives with the international game instead of focusing on improvements and growth, try enjoying tonga vs Italy for what it is.

Australians and the English have all the money in the game. Until these fans the league snobs start enjoying or supporting the international game things won't change, I'm not sure why fans continue to turn there noses up at smaller nations trying to improve ??. To me it's how we the normal fans view the international game, if people demand it, the money and big wigs will follow suit. So no I don't agree it's Australia kicking arse that is the problem.

Hear, hear!

I'm an England fan and went to at least 10 games of the last World Cup, and enjoyed every single one, regardless of who was playing. In fact, I probably enjoyed the games that England didn't play in more. And I admired the passion and pride that every team played with, regardless of where their players were born or raised.

I'm leaving tomorrow on a 3-week holiday to enjoy the World Cup in Australia. I'll be watching Aus v Eng, the Cairns double-header, the Townsville double-header, the Perth double-header and QF4. So I'll be deliberately missing England's game with Lebanon (which I of course wanted to watch) because I wanted to watch more games overall.

I personally can't wait for the tournament to start and will enjoy watching the minnows every bit as much as the 'big 3' (or 'big 1' if you want to be more accurate, unfortunately).

So come on people, turn up to as many games as you can, give every team a cheer, and prove to the world what a great sport we have.

I agree that international basketball is far from the biggest spectacle going around but what I mean is that it attracts a TV deal of around $25 - $50 million for the tournament, doesn't have trouble attracting global broadcasters, sells tickets to most if not all matches quite comfortably and easily attracts a range of high profile sponsors. All with the sport being utterly dominated by one country. Going into every single tournament there is absolutely zero doubt in everyone's mind that the USA will be holding up the trophy at the end. I'm just using it as an reason why it does not hold the sport back that the Kangaroos dominate RL and they don't dominate it anywhere near the level the USA dominate basketball. It is still possible for our sport to continue to grow and generate interest.

And yes 100% we love RL

The main criticisms I have of Australia is not their dominance (how can you fault them for being awesome) but:

1) Their need to take a “break” every 3 years (2012, 2015, 2018?).

2) Connected to 1, their lack of leadership in the international game. Meninga appears to be trying turn this around but it needs to come from all stakeholders in the Australian game. The RLIF needs to have another money-making tournament every other couple of years, but it will never happen while Australia drag their feet.
