Raider Record's Presents
Well what a decisively average season it was for Raiders fans across the country, it was a year that promised so much but delivered so little. Whilst things went from bad to worse on field, things couldnt get better off it.
The Raiders had their eyes on the music business after a muck around Mad Monday single topped the chart, a remake of Gloria Gaynor classic "Too good to be true" entitled "Too good to be Drew". Against Raiders HQs instructions the playing and coaching staff combined with fans to launch their newest project. A leap into the music industry, a CD label, entitled Raider Records.
And what a success it was, with star players, head coaches and fans alike jumping on the wagon to produce countless hits and remade some old classics.
The first to make waves in the music business was inspirational Raiders red head and bench warmer Alan Tongue when he teamed up with pop princess Delta Goodrem with Born to Try. Increased sexual tension forced the ARIA nominated duo to split, would seem Delta couldnt keep her hands of the bootylicious Alan Tongue
who could blame her?
2005 saw Matt Elliott head down a new path, after relishing coaching was not his calling he formed a pop super group and hit the charts big time when he teamed up with some other unknowns to form "Simple Plan", some said a more then apt description of the mans coaching credentials. The hit single Shut Up was written for Raiders captain Simon Woolford on behalf of the NRL referees committee. Unfortunately Simon failed to heed the words of the song, much to on looking fans dismay.
Mean while the fans banded together to hit back at Mr Elliott on the charts and once again the divine Delta Goodrem's help was required. Fans around the country combined with Delta and dedicated it a song to Matt Elliott, number 1 with a bullet - "Predictable", it featured cameos from all 14 remaining NRL coaches.
Star Raiders recruit Craig Frawley may not have featured on the field but he wasnt out of action totally, launching his own singing career with a cover of unknown Band Trapt's "Made of Glass", first choice front row pair Michael Weyman and Ryan OHara backed Frawleys vocals on the drums and guitar respectively. They were scheduled for an Australian tour before injury ruled them out.
Raider fans were in the thick of it again, and werent going to let their club out do their efforts in or out of the stadium after soundly beating the players efforts on the field with their work in the stand. They again entered the ARIA top 10 with a remake of Adam Sandlers "Uses of the word f**k".
All whilst on the park the Raiders season continued to slowly but surely go to the dogs. As did the solo career of Raiders winger Matt Gafa, whos much hyped single Do You Like Me?, a cover from unknown band Fugazi, flopped big time, it would seem the resounding answer from the Australian public was No
And whilst things looked good in the studio, things went from bad to worse on the paddock, with the Raiders finals hopes extinguished by god knows how many time, wooden spooners- South Sydney... but not to fear Raiders fans because despite the depressing loss and the smug looking face of Russel Crowe, a new song had emerged from the dressing rooms, not much is known but the chorus went something like "At least we know Russell Crowes bands a f**kin pile of sh*t. The raiders publicly thanked Frenzel Rhomb for their help on that one.
With such success not even the Raiders Management could hold back their musical ergs, as they teamed up with hip hopper Kayne West to record an up beat song that confirmed the thoughts or Raiders fans, a song called We Dont Care.
And that concludes the wrap up of the Raider Records achievements for the 2005 season, and one must think that despite troubles on the field, Raider Records has established a strong foot hole in the Music industry, one Im sure they will look to exploit in 2006.
Whats to come in 2006? Given the new recruits and loss of some big names. Who knows, but it sure to be an exciting season
off the field anyway.
