Cricket Australia has delayed the Test team’s departure to Bangladesh amid security concerns.

The Australian Test team were due to depart from several locations in Australia on Monday, coming together upon arrival in Dhaka.

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said recent advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) was behind the decision.

Why wouldn't they whine? SA and India have just recently toured. Amla and Dale Steyn was playing street cricket and football with other kids ffs. Now Australia come tour and there is a possibility of a terror threat? :sarcasm:

The only ever attacks that ever happen in Bangladesh are politically motivated. And besides all Bangladeshis love Aussies (due to BD's win against Aus in the infamous Natwest series)

Cricket Australia cannot send the Australian cricket side to a country that just had a travel warning issued warning of attacks to Australian interests.

Nope, but fans can whine, no problem with that...

Shame all round, would be an interesting series - but CA is 100% correct to delay and withdraw if there are risks

Its a shame. It seemed many a great test career was about to be launched or rebooted successfully against the Bangas, but alas I would say the Australian selectors will now go back to the status quo as much as possible to play it safe for Jeremy Coney and the Kiwis.

Question lies would CA back off from tour to India as quickly as they have backed off the tour to Bangladesh?

Same but with Isis claiming they murdered a foreigner in the capital its looking borderline at best.

I can't fault Bangladesh cricket for trying everything to get the tour going but they simply cannot offer "head of state" security like they are claiming.

How many visiting heads of state stand in a field for 6 hours a day over 5 days surrounded by thousands of people.

I seem to recall that's what the Pakis claimed the Sri Lankans had too.

Sept. 29, 2015

The U.S. and U.K. embassies in Bangladesh have restricted their diplomats’ movements and warned visitors to stay on high alert after receiving information that militants may be targeting Westerners.

“There is reliable new information to suggest that militants may be planning to target Australian interests in Bangladesh,” read a U.S. embassy statement on Monday. “In light of the increased threat, U.S. citizens should consider limiting their attendance at events where foreigners may gather.”

Echoing this warning, the British embassy said, “As of late September 2015 there is reliable information that militants may be planning to target western interests in Bangladesh.”

These advisories came after Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella was shot by gunmen on Monday evening in the capital Dhaka.

An online statement allegedly from the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for the killing, but it has not yet been independently verified or acknowledged by local police, Reuters reported.

I am really disappointed this tour is not going ahead.

No more NRL and our cricket summer still a few weeks away, was looking forward to some test cricket in October. However the risk is just not worth it, considering it looks quite serious from the intel received

RIP to Cesare
