Axe the Tax Rally

Another poor argument. In Qld, what is the stamp duty you pay on buying a house? Do you pay an extra 10 cents per litre of petrol in tax?

There are imbalances all over the place and to say clubs should be taxed more because they are in other states means you must be the love child of Michael Egan and Bob Carr.

What about Labors mismanagement of the NSW economy as Hrundi pointed out earlier?

The NSW Labor party see the clubs as an easy target for tax and try and pull at the heart strings of gullible voters by saying the money will go to health. How can they quantify this claim?

I don't care about the Tax or no Tax

Being a QLD'er, I remember when we had no poker machines, & all the Sydney Clubs 'stealing' our players, whether they were Juniors or not.

Now the Clubs are going to be taxed higher, maybe it will be pay back time.

I am weeping for the clubs. :p

Even if everybody were to agree that the tax is justified for clubs, why is nothing being done about pokies in pubs?

probably because there aren't pubs which have more pokies than a casino? (a guess on my part on the numbers there, but i am willing to stand by it untill proven wrong ;-) )

It's not about clubs having pokies - it's about how many they have and how much money they get from them.

The increased taxes will effect both clubs and pubs.

As Grantwhy suggested, the tax is on the amount of revenue you make and the rate increases as that revenue increases (much like income tax). So the more money you make of poker machines the higher your marginal rate.

If you only have 10 or 20 machines - you will be limited in how much you can make and so won't be too affected. If you have 200 - 300 machines - you are at the top end and will cop it.

If you reduce the amount of machines you have - you won't have to pay the high rate
