How much of this is true? I have the solution to the NRL's problem trying to pick the face of the rugby league........W Bennett.....non drinker, doesn't go to night clubs, doesn't eat McDonalds.

I hope this is just a situation where some guy has mouthed off, got what he deserved and then snuck off and lagged on Benji to the police. When this happens the truth normally comes out pretty quick. The fact he was sober at least will go in Benji's favour...still, not good.

Great player exiciting as hell frustrating as hell too and I can live with that. However it is obvious hearing him in any media he does that the kid is no rocket scientist. Here is an example of a guy that should leave it all on the field because frankly it was embarrassing seeing him do that NRL launch and embarrasing every time he has done anything on Channel 9.

The whole Macca's at 3.00am in a busy part of the CBD just confirms what I thought about his intelligence. If he's going out then do it smart in a place where people of his celebrity go, away from camera's and westies in the city on a Friday night looking for a fight. He doesn't need to be there he has too much to lose and nothing to gain. I know people should be able to do what they want socially however when you are at his level of recognition and want to get on the piss do it somewhere classy and have a car take you door to door or one of your hangers on drive you, even if your natural inclination is to hang out in deadsh*t pubs and finish with a Macca's feed.

Screw the media.

How would a sports reporter take it if every single time they made a single factual fault in their articles thousands of sports fans started posting, twittering, status updating, conversing, mailing and calling all and sundry with personal defamation and demanding their immediate sacking or fining from their positions.

Even politicians are held more accountable for their bullsh*t. And ironically their held accountable by these hyperbolic, misleading, pretentious media f**kwits who can slander, abuse and defame anyone whenever they want.

Believe me I try my best

If the story the way Benji tells it is true, good on him. Racism should never be tolerated, and simply ignoring it wouldn't have done a thing. Racists need harsh lessons taught to them.

If Benji was provoked then good on him.
Too many blokes play up on the drink & give other blokes who mind their own business a bad name.
If this was the case with Benji then the NRL has more to answer to than Benji.

But... Benji is in a position to make a bigger and more productive statement about his experiences of racism. By punching on with a racist, he's lowered himself. I'm sure he will look back on this and think "I could have handled that a lot better". Opportunity missed...

What could he have done? Ignored them? Shown the racists there is no ramifications of saying what they did?

Benji did exactly the right thing. If people are prepared to be filthy racists, they should be prepared to get the sh*t kicked out of them. It is the only way to deal with them.

At the end of the day he was just defending himself which is his legal right.
No, he did the wrong thing. He should have laughed at him then walked out. He is a good bloke earning over $400 000 and the face of the game. He can't afford to lower himself to the toe rags that are out at that time of night. Discipline, Benji, discipline.

fox sports reporting that Benji has been charged with assult occationing atcual bodily harm

aside from whats being reported, lets hope the courts are allowed to perform thier function and the truth comes out. The whole truth

everyone is intitled to thier day in court and everyone is innocent untill proven guilty under australian law

Benji is certainly entitled to his day in court and is innocent until proven guilty but I think he has a problem...a big problem if this has gone onto him being actually charged.

Mere words do not constitute a reason to assault anyone, it is the old sticks and stones rule. The words can be taken into mitigation is when a penalty is determined. If there is some underlying reason why the assault took place the court can take this into consideration and hand out a lesser penalty. The racism taunts can explain why this happened, the assault however is taking the situation too far in the eyes of the court.

I think the penalty is going to come from the NRL...there are several precedences in place where a charged player is stood down.

unfortunatley he will have to be stood down,in nrl it's guilty until proven innocent.
I understand his frustration but you can't go around punching other people, the law views it as assult. It must be proven, though. Manly people are peeved about the Stewart situation. Peter Peters said on 2KY this morning that Brett Stewart was not drunk at the Manly season launch. The club was fined $100 000 over that situation. If he wasn't drunk, why doesn't or didn't Manly contest the fine and get their money back. Peter Peters is not the most impartial observer.
