Bailey in Centres

Just reported on 2KY sports breakfast, with Vagana & Kent out injured, Bailey will start the year in the centres.
A good move under the circumstances. We have more depth in the forwards than the backs, so he will be useful out there.

That sucks, Bailey aint a centre I tells ya!

What about McGoldrick and Franze in the centres? WHAT HAPPENED TO MCGOLDRICK!?

I hate you Phil Bailey. I hope you go to fart and follow through...embarrassingly. Stay in the forwards.

Good news I reckon

He's not as fast as most centres but he can usually hold his own over 40 metres
Good defender too

Who will be the other centre though?

My feelings are pretty clear on this. Get Bailey into the back Row ASAP.
Means McGoldrick or Franze has missed a start(or plays on the wing).
I also heard Lomu is picked in the front row.Is he starting?

Where is this big groundswell of support for McGoldrick coming from?

The kid's got potential, but he hasnt done all that much when he's been given the opportunity thus far.

Hey,hey, hey let's not get too hot under the collar over this decision. I think it's a smart move. McGoldrick is still very young and inexperienced and being in front of an expected huge crowd the occasion might get the better of him first up. Bailey is a great defender and terriffic line breaker. He was our leading tryscorer with 12 pies playing in this position all last year. His side on movement is not as good as a traditional back but he will do a great job for us. I think you'll find Franze as the other centre which makes a pretty solid combination.

Mind you they'll need to be when they'll be marking Benji Marshall in the centres. If Sheens decides to keep him there? He might have second thoughts with Bailey running at him one on one out there.

It's also a good move because the Tigers are a very physical side and having the extra size on the park will be more than useful. It won't be permanent. Vagana will be back in a couple of weeks and Bailey will go back to the backrow.

The wingers will be Reick and Merritt.

And it appears some solid performances from Lomu in the trials has won him a starting position with Stevens in the front row!

I think with Vagana out its a smart decision to play Bailey in the centres. He played well for us there last year.
When Vagana returns Bailey should shift back to the second row. I think the tigers and bulldogs games are both going to be very physical games, I would like to see someone with a bit of size defending there.

I can't wait to see how Lomu goes. I hope he can have a big year for us.

Im sure most people know that i reckon bailey is a self infatuated mug, but under the circumstances, its the best option imo

I think Mcgoldrick will be chucked onto the bench or wing. They said he has been going will in training and has had good trial form. But I don't see them dropping Franze for him.

Bailey had a problem in defence with Stinky because Stinky never stayed on his man which gave them room to get around Bails. Hopefully Merritt will listen to him or Rieck starts too. Bailey and Franze was a great combo in the one game they had together last year.

Interesting they said because Kent was out too.. Maybe he was also fighting for a spot with Franze and Mcgoldrick.

I'm ok with it, as long as its McGoldrick that misses out and not Franze.

I too am miffed about the groundswell of support for McGoldrick. It is because some of you believed all those articles (Union propaganda) written after he signed with Union, concerning what a brilliant athlete he is? He is getting talked up a fair bit in the media as the one to watch, but I just think that is linked with all the publicity he got early 2003.

In 2002 I didn't see him do much to suggest he is a long term first grader.

I'd bet my left nut that Franze will miss out in favour of McGoldrick. Don't know if I necessarily agree with the decision - I haven't seen their form so its hard to decide - but I reckon that's how it'll pan out.

Reckon Franze will come off the bench or something? Don't tell me he has a season of PL ahead of him :(

Don't know about a season of PL, but I reckon he'll at least start out there. I'm one of Franze's biggest fans but all indications so far are that he'll miss the 17.

None of the above. I think he has the potential to be a fine centre in the mold of McGaw. Knows how to hit the line at pace, draw two players and get the pass away, anyone remember that ?

His limited stint in 1st grade in 2002 he was playing flat, not suited to his build & style, given a bit more room & ball, he'll do well.

Im with BS bailey is in the mold of Mcgaw I think he grew into the centre position last year, Im not sure there will be that much of a defensive difference from rieck to merrit, last I checked he wasnt the worlds best defender either.
