Ball and Matthews

Ventured down to CUA this afternoon to catch the Matthews and Ball games against the Tigers.

Harold Matthews came away with a 32-10 win after things were locked 10 a piece at half time in what was a pretty spirited contest.

The SG Ball blitzed the opposition 62-4 and leading 22-0 at HT.

There is a lot of talent in these two sides and it will be interesting to see what sort of Flegg side we end up with as we can expect a handful of the SG Ball side will step up when there season ends in two months. I dont know how were going to fit them all in but we will certainly have one hell of a Flegg side for what I saw last night and again today.

The Tia Kilifi brothers in the second row in Matthews were both very impressive.

In Ball it is hard to single out individuals in such a big win but I liked the look of the five eighth Wade Graham. Lachlan Coote and Zoran Watene while both on the small side were very dangerous and each scored a couple of tries.

Going down to CUA and watching these youngsters in action helped alleviate some of the hangover and depression from the loss to the Eels. I repeat some, not all.

Sorry, meant to include Matthew Wright centre in the Matthews side. Good size and speed, terrific boot on him both in general play and as a goalkicker. Definitely one for the future.

Matthew Wright and Wade Graham have both made positional changes this year.

Matt Wright was fullback/wing last season I believe for the majority but he has seen an opportunity where he can become centre in first grade in a few years.

Same with Wade Graham. Predominately a halfback, he has reverted to five-eight seeing an opportunity may arise in a couple of seasons. He is a great young player with awesome leadership attributes. At the tender age of 17 I think...or maybe even 16...it'd be difficult for him to step up to Flegg...but I wouldn't mind putting him on the bench.

IMO Coote, Watane, Joudo, Mate, Graham will all feature heavily in Fleggs assault for a second consecutive title.

Got to see both grades against the Western Acadamey of Sport and Wright scored 24 points out of the 48 points scored.Good young centre but I'd like to see him move into 5/8 as he has good ball skills.
In the SG Ball side Joudo, Coote, Mate, & Watene were good I was also impressed with Waddell. He scored a good try and sent Watene in for a try. Very tall for a centre and has a good turn of speed. Anyone know if he's related to our former 1st grade prop Steve Waddell

I was there on saturday as well and want to echo the thoughts of those above and add another kid that impressed me in the SG Ball side - Daniel Penese. What a fantastic second rower!

Best SG Ball side we've ever had.

Last year we had 3-4 stars...leading the way.

This year we have 6-8

Too true BM!
I'm planning to go out and watch them again this Saturday, because they are absolutely amazing to watch.
They just scored try after try after try on Saturday.
