Balmain 52-4 win over Dogs with no bark

The Tigers handed out an 9-try thrashing to the hapless Dogs on Saturday afternoon in Gosford.

At half time the Tigers led by only 12-4 having let the Dogs back into the game. The second half was all one-way - over the Dogs try line.

Greally scored a great, solo, length of the field, try to start the scoring. Ben Carney scored the first of his two tries from a Robbie Farah kick that Kaufusi made a mess off. Ben’s second came shortly after half time when he crashed through the defence to score in the corner.

Ben Carney may have been relieved of the kicking duties but he sure knows how to finish a try. Brett Kelly was brilliant with the boot, kicking 7 from 8. Henderson scored a nice try after some tremendous work by Rhino Heighington, who is playing good football prompting some fans to call for his recall to first grade.

A Henderson kick put Hession over before Robbie Farah made a wonderful break up the centre off the field and in the next set Hession got his double.

Tries 7 and 8 were a brace to Jamie Small - were Tim and Royce watching? How long now before Jamie finally gets his just reward and a chance in first grade. Jamie crashed over on both occasions, the second a beauty from about 20 metres out. This guy is unstoppable.

The final try came after the bell. With the Tigers defending but desperate to reach 50, John Wilson picked up an intercept to run the the length of the field. Seemingly at the behest of Jeff Lima, Rhino stepped up to take the conversion and slotted it over. What depth of goal-kicking! Who could forget Jeff’s conversion into the wind from the touchline earlier in the season. Now Rhino gets in on the act.

The felling of Robbie in back play was a disgrace and the Dogs player was sent off. Robbie was helped from the field but was at least walking.

Jermaine Albert - after another 3-try haul in Flegg - made his debut in the last 10 minutes. Congratulations to Jermaine who scored 3 the week before as well. Another young star to watch.

Balmain’s best. Hard to pick three players but without doubt, as ever, Jamie Small, Jeff Lima and Robbie Farah. OK honourable mention to Rhino.

Nick Graham looked good at times but you have to wonder if his days in first grade are now numbered. The same might go for John Wilson.

A great all round performance and revenge for the loss to the Dogs two weeks ago. The boys are back to their best.

Flegg won 28-20. What a great day!

Rhino all the way! He has very little varriance in his performances ever. That sort of consistancy is a sign of a player suitable for first grade. He is a very strong runner even when given little space and has an intelligent passing game that usually sets up a break or two. He is also a tough defender who hits hard and hurts attacking players.

I like bronson a lot, but if a second rower is to be needed in first grade then my vote would go for rhino who is far better up the middle then bronson. I still think the wests tigers lack muscle in the forwards and bringing in the likes of small, lima and rhino would significantly enhance the go forward and strength of the tigers. A side shouldn't be tampered with too significantly after two consecutive victories but the performances of Balmain's forwards always gets me contemplating how some of the balmain stars would perform in first grade.

I havn`t seen Balmain play yet this year and i`m predominately a Magpie fan but from what I seen of them about 8 games last year,I agree with you 100%.I`m a huge Heighnington fan, think Bronson is awesome, but better as a centre,Jeff Lima has plenty of raw power and Jamie Small has a huge heart!

good to hear Jamie got a double - he's consistantly in our top 3 players week in week out - if next time the wests tigers need a prop he gets overlooked for patterson again I'll go on a shooting rampage

great victory to the boys - who apart from alberts looked good in flegg?

Yeah Jamie was as always awesome on saturday, fully deserved that double. Thats second half display was simply awesome. Last week Branighan had a lot to do with beating the knights but saturday was a real team effort, everyone played there part.

Graham i thought had a great first 30mins but then really blended in and didnt really standout much after. I cant see Him or Wilson making a return anytime soon.

I'd be prepared to lend you my gun if you were to shoot Patterson. He needs to be put out of his misery anyway. Just remember the pointy end aims away from me.

Seriously though, I don't know what else Small has to do to get a crack at first grade. One thing is for sure though, if Sheens isn't prepared to give him a go, he needs to start looking elsewhere for it. He is too good a player to be languishing in premier league for much longer.
