Very concerning read.

I'd be interested to hear from Wests Tigers supporters who'd know a lot more about the whole situation as to whether it's really as dire as the article seems to suggest.

Balmain might be in trouble, but the club isn't going anywhere.

This is old news, and I'm pretty sure the NRL has already said that it won't accept any club other than West's Tigers in West Sydney. Has to be same name and same colours.

shows why mergers are fked up.

shouldve been one of either balmain or wests from the start

and i dont believe wests wouldnt take up the license on their own if they had the chance

if they did i wonder if the ARLC can force them to keep the tigers moniker

if they are going to fund the whole team they should be entitled to revive their history

The dysfunctional board from the Tigers appear to have been the problem with the merge. Whilst not a match made in heaven this has moved to survival mode. If Wests Magpies were to become a stand alone entity, why would you force them to have the Tigers moniker?
Fanciful....

Getting rid of the Wests Tigers name would be completely stupid and I would hope the ARLC aligned board members would block it

Wests Magpies, just like Balmain Tigers will never return to stand alone status and nor should they ever do so.

Considering the crowd and viewership drop when Parra, Saints & WT had a poor year I have my doubts whether the NRL would risk one of the blue chip Sydney clubs by moving them.

Many rounds to play out before anything significant happens

Best case scenario is if Campbelltown gets a full time team that supports the region however plays the bigger games at ANZ, be it the Tigers, Magpies or something else.

If the NRL wants a full time team based out of Campbelltown then they had better be prepared to prop it up for at least a decade while it tries to see if it can work.

So far regardless of population the area has never been able to support a first grade league franchise

All the ex-Wests fans I know now support Souths.

Balmain fans jumped on the WT merger.

Funny how things turn out.

Also interesting that despite calls for expansion, and the traditional teams being expendable and irrelevant, the whole merge debacle is being propped up by the club at Ashfield.

Yep. Magpies are gone. The Tigers is the brand the team is associated with, regardless of funding or anything else in it's name.

I cant imagine the ARLC would let the Magpies come back, and i doubt they would just let the Tigers die.

Souths have shown teams dont need a Leagues club to turn a profit, they just need some business savy, which (i would guess) the new ARLC board members while bring.

The positive side of the Balmain side falling over is that we will be able to finally leave Liechhart. I cannot see the Tigers ever being truely popular with games spread over 3 stadiums.

While i have doubts about Campbeltown being able to support a team on its own, SW sydney is where the Tigers need to be.

Ive already said it a million times but Liverpool seems their best bet if they were to move to a 1 stadium policy. It has reasonable access from Campbeltown and Camden areas but is still outside of the SW-bottleneck so its a location that will draw people from closer to the City ( from what i can gather, a large portion of the Cabramatta/Fairfield population are Tigers fans)

But a move like this will only be possible if the vested interests of the Leagues Clubs are removes.

Merged clubs have no soul and no history, its always amusing seeing them run out.

Also clubs that play out of the black hole of atmosphere at homebush are in the same boat.
