These are the true facts.

The ARLC/NRL have not taken over the Wests Tigers.

Wests Ashfield wanted to take control of the Wests Tigers as they were putting money into WT but Balmain had not for a few years.

Wests Ashfield were paying for Balmain as well. Because this was the case, Wests Ashfield asked Balmain for one of their seats on the Wests Tigers board as Wests Ashfield were paying more money. Wests Ashfield said to Balmain as soon as they get back on their feet (and pay back their money) Balmain can get their seat on the board back.

Balmain refused to agree to give Ashfield one of Balmains seats so Ashfield could pay all the bills for Wests Tigers and have that extra voting seat on the board.

Because Balmain refused this, Wests Ashfield then said they were going to pay Wests Tigers what Balmain do. That is not one cent. Disgraced Balmain Chairman Nick DiGirolamo took Wests Chairman Mike Bailey to the ARLC and they finally agreed to give seats to the ARLC for a $4million loan.

Balmain have to pay that money back. (Balmain wont be able to do this for a number of reasons I can expand upon later).

Next Issue:
Wests Tigers will never move to Perth. It is not going to happen. EVER.

The Wests Tigers logo is owned by the NRL. Not by Wests or Balmain.
The Wests Tigers name is owned by the NRL. Not by Wests or Balmain.

Wests Ashfield can easily fund the Wests Tigers. Not a problem. Only Star Casino makes more cash turnover that Wests Ashfield in that area.

Wests Ashfield will not change the name to Wests Magpies. That is not going to happen either. Ever.

Benny Elias did not buy Balmain Leagues club for $1. The company that Benny ELias part owns bought the land in which the LEagues club sits on and neighbouring property for $22 million dollars. The money they paid put Balmains books $1 in the black as Balmain were $22 million dollars in debt due to the poor running of the Leagues club.

Balmain now are about $8-$10 million is debt. So in the space of 5 years they have haemoraged $30million dollars.

Balmain now have a $4million NRL loan as well on top of that.

Balmain are tied into a 15year lease if the Rozelle project gets the go ahead.

Balmain will have to furbish that little Leagues club, pay staff wages, big rent, etc etc etc and hope that it makes money before they can ever fund Wests Tigers again.

Lets face facts. Balmain have no hope of ever getting back on their feet.

Wests Ashfield are a well run club. They have money. They wanted to fund Wests Tigers but the stubborn Balmain Directors who have thrown away $30 million dollars in the last few years said no.

Wests Campbellown owned about 13% of Wests Tigers but pulled out last year and gave their one seat to Wests Ashfield becaise Balmain were not funding Wests Tigers one cent as 50% owners but Campbelltown were.

If Wests Campbelltown were to come back into the fold with Wests Ashfield, the two Leagues clubs have equity of around $100million dollars.

The poorly run Balmain club have nothing but huge bills that they will never be able to pay.

It makes sense that in two years time. Wests Ashfield is handed control of Wests Tigers.

Dont worry Tigers fans. THE NAME WONT CHANGE TO MAGPIES. The Wests directors do not want this to occur.

I grew up in Balmain and come from that side of the merger. For mine the club has for a number of years needed to move the majority of its games and football operations to Sydney's South West. I have said many times we should lobby with the Wanderers and Dogs to get a new rectangular stadium at Liverpool. Imagine a Suncorp type stadium in such a location it would be fantastic for our code.

I know a previous board member of the Wests Tigers and when I mentioned that they should play more at Campbelltown he said whilst it is a growing area the sponsors of the club wanted more games closer to Sydney. This coupled with the fact that you got paid to play at the SFS and ANZ made those stadiums with better facilities for the corporates even more attractive.

Sponsors are getting harder to find in the current economic climate and keeping the current sponsors happy is getting more difficult.

For mine the Tigers is a great logo and brand name. The Wests Tigers now have 15 years as a brand, whilst I see why many Magpie fans want the Magpie name back it would not make financial sense to get rid of a strong brand.

Wests Ashfield is a very well run club. They have made the most of their surrounding location to become a pookie haven. Funny when I went to both Balmain Leagues Club and Wests Ashfield around 20 plus years ago Balmain Leagues Club was like a palace compared to the Wests club at the time. It really goes to show the different demographics in the two areas in their love of playing the pookies.
