Hey guys, I'm from Lismore, on the far north coast of NSW (hence the forum name =]). I have been following the forums for the past year but with everything going on at the moment i thought its about time i jumped into the ramblings that go on

Kimmorley hunts for new club

April 30, 2008 UNWANTED Cronulla halfback Brett Kimmorley will meet his manager to begin the search for a new home in 2009 as the player merry-go-round continues to swing unabated.
Kimmorley admits his future at Cronulla is bleak as the club are continually linked to attempts to recruit Wigan star and former St George Illawarra captain Trent Barrett back to the NRL.

Barrett has yet to ask Wigan for a release from the final year of his deal, but NRL clubs have been told the former Test and New South Wales star wants in excess of $400,000 per season to return home.

The Sharks, Dragons and Canberra are interested in securing the 30-year-old, while the Bulldogs and Manly both baulked at the price tag.

Kimmorley, who commands $300,000 a year, knows if the Sharks succeed with Barrett he needs to move on and after several clubs confirmed key signings for next season he must act quick.

The Raiders poached lock Nathan Smith to return home from Penrith on a three-year deal, with Canberra forward Neville Costigan expected to leave for the Gold Coast next season.

The Dragons retained winger Jason Nightingale for three seasons while Gold Coast utility Josh Graham extended his deal for a further two years.

And Raiders halfback Michael Dobson is waiting for a decision from Canberra on his request for an immediate release to join English club Hull KR.

If, as expected, Dobson receives permission to join Hull then it would be one less English club available for Kimmorley.

The article continues to blab about Kimmorely after this.

Any truth behind the possibility that Management could actually be looking to secure Barret? Maybe thats why we have released dobson? Heres Hoping.

That would be good I think.

You guys whinge all you want. If we had either Barrett or Kimmorley it's be exactly what we need. At the moment we've got a rudderless ship, plenty of potential, and noone to step up and lead, but a player of the calibre of Barrett or Kimmorley could send us down the exact right path.

Exactly, either signing would be a positive for the club - on and off the field.

I like Barrett, but he isn't the missing piece of the puzzle. Kimmorley - as much as it pains me to say it - could very well be.

no chance either would come to Canberra.

either would definately improve the side and could help with the development of Carney, Campo and Herbert. As each are getting on a bit, I wouldn't think they would be offered a contract longer than 2 years.

But, as said, no chance of them coming.

Apparently Kimmorley has said he wants to go the Dragons if the Sharks don't want him anyway. Won't come to Canberra that's for sure.

Barret is a better halfback than 5/8 these days anyway with his old legs... we could use him to steer the ship at 7 and let Carney loose at 6. Would also be a huge signing for the club in terms of future sponsorship, bums on seats and attracting rep players.
Don't forget his mum lives in ACT and he visited our HQ over summer.

North Coast raider, I live in Byron bay and work in ballina, small world huh?

your credibility gets worse and worse. first you rate dobson and now this

I know hey.

I mean, clearly I'm the only person on earth who could possibly rate someone who has won a premiership, and played half for Country, New South Wales and Australia.

What could I possibly be thinking?

Welcome to the forum mate!

I can't see Barrett coming here, nor do I think it would be the best move by the club - although it really depends on whether Herbert can shake his injury curse because we don't want to live with a Campo/Carney halves combo for too much longer. The thing is Barrett is a similar style to both these guys and is a known choker so I don't know what he could add to the club (other than holding back more juniors Jason Smith style).

I'd be happier signing Heignington from the tigers (even though we have a crapload of second rowers already), holding onto Purts and Campo and signing a decent outside back....

I cant believe all the interest on this forum for trent barrett.
And if management fall into him i'd love to play poker against them cause they are ripe for the bluff.
