Trent Barrett signs with Cronulla Sharks

CRONULLA today signed former Australian five-eighth Trent Barrett to a two year contract worth $600,000. The Daily Telegraph understands Barrett's deal will include a third party sponsorship agreement with Channel Nine.
Sharks officials are expected to release a media statement at 4pm today announcing Barrett's deal.
Barrett became available after negotiating an early release from English club Wigan.
He will replace Sharks halfback Brett Kimmorley, off to the Bulldogs at the end of this season.

Kimmorley was on **** money for this contract from all reports. About 200k No more from what i hear, but i don't mind if im corrected.

Kimmorley gone, he was on a decent sized contract, and a player alot of people forget is Thommo, who was also on a pretty reasonable contract!

Take a look at cronullas lineup, full of plodders. Hardly the team I would look at if I was worried about the cap.

Sign some attacking outside backs.

Barrett is a poor substitute for Kimmorley. Replacing one old bloke who wants to be there and at least tries with an injury prone old bloke who just wanted to come home and has been out of the NRL for a few years.

They didnt seem to gain anything in my opinion.

A strike centre (Pomeroy is ok) and a winger who can run faster than my grandmother (yes im looking at you covell) would be good.

Remember the attacking sharks of the mid 90's? I recall they had gun lower grades with Rogers and Peachey and such in them prior to their little golden run there, whats doing in the lower grades today??

Most of them are signed with all different Sydney NRL clubs, Cronulla would have no more then a small handful, unfortunately!
