basketball section

I think basketball deserves to retain a separate section. Most of the Other Sports threads are about basketball, and it's the off-season - posts will pick up when the NBA starts again in October. Besides, I thought the moderator of the former basketball section was doing an outstanding job, and didn't deserve to be downsized. You don't want to lose a valuable guy like that.

Steve nothing is going to please you. You've complained before that it takes too long to get around the forum. We downsized things and you complain about that. I'd personally like to see more of the sports sections merged into other sports.

Well, there have to be some complaints once in a while as a change from the constant back-slapping.

Given your line of thought, why not reduce to 3 sections - RL, Other Sports, and Non-Sports?

There used to be a Basketball forum early on in this site's history but it was axed when the admin was trying to cut down on the amount of forums there were. CanadianSteve was particularly vocal about keeping the forum, and seeing it was the NBA off-season there wasn't likely to be a great deal of posts. The forum membership has grown substantially since then and the volume of posts on Basketball in the Other Sports section would suggest there's an ample amount of interest to justify having a forum for it.

I really think that an NBA forum is warrented. I pointed this out when they split the JBC forum from the NSWRL forum but of course that ended up doing a backflip due to hardly any traffic.


It is evident that league unlimited though is trying to save space on there servers so I don't like our chances of a forum starting up.

I hardly think Willow will give any thought to a lone basketball forum (although an approach is definately warranted). Perhaps we should nominate someone to make an inquiry to Willow for a basketball forum. The closest I can see us getting at this stage though, is an American Sports forum :?

i have asked the admins for one a while ago in the forum issues section, they said theyw oudl look into it if the bball thread pick up in this section but at the moment it is a no.

As I said I doubt that an NBA forum or even a Basketball forum by its self could start up.

I think that as they start to reduce what they think needs reducing then we will be looking at seeing NFL, NBA, NHL and MBL all as one combined forum.

They have a combined forum for all the world leagues for soccer don't they so why shouldn't they do the same for all american sports?

Not only would this save space but it would also reduce the list of rights they would have to give to people to act as moderators as well which is something else that they no doubt have been reviewing as well.

well i think that the nfl and nhl and mbl should ahve a forum joined together as they are 90% american sports and not played much more around teh world, how ever bball should have its own forum as it isnt just in the usa it is very popular around the world including australia.

I asked Willow about it in a PM, and he replied:

We were investigating the possibility of having a mega 'All Sports' section with the one and link a description of what was inside by way of forum sub sections. This way we could could give every non-RL sport its own forum without it taking up space the main index page. The idea was sheleved when we found a few possible bugs in the proposed modifications.
We'll revisit it again after the holiday break.

If they are able to do that I think that will be good.

like it has been said before, there used to be a basketball forum close to the start of the front row forums but due to the fact it wasnt being used enough it was decided that it would be deleted to save space. the NFL forum has been around since the start as well and has survived cause it has had enough input to be considered useful enough to stay, even though most of the time it was active was during the off-season. your inquires for a basketball forum havnt gone un-heard but the reason it hasnt been adressed is becasue the front rows are trying to find away to cut back on the amount of space the other sports forums index uses. once this is solved the possibility of a basketball forum can be adressed. for the mean time keep posting all basketball related threads here in the other sports forum.
