Batista injured
January 9, 2006

Sunday night at a SmackDown live event, World Heavyweight Champion Batista injured his triceps in a match against Mark Henry.

The extent of the injury is undetermined at this point. WWE.com will have more information on Batista's injury later today

Is the story real or part of a Story line?

If he is injured, give the strap to Henry at the Rumble, then have Orton beat Henry at Mania (the only problem is that Orton is better as a heel and Henry can't play a face). Perhaps Rey Mysterio or Chris Benoit could be short term options. That is the way I would go. But isn't it the same muscle which he hurt a few months back, part of the reason he has been in more tag matches than single matches recently. I recon it is just a reoccurance of that injury.

To be honest I dont want Henry near that title, let alone defendind it against Orton at Mania with both of them being Heel. Orton should win it of Batista and Mysterio/Benoit/Jericho (hoping he comes back to SD) Should challenge him.

Hi we're WWE creative, our smackdown champ is injured but wants to work through it instead of surgery, what shall we do?

I know lets put him in a tag scenario, but who can he fight. theres a lot of cruiserweights, nah lets have him get repeatedly choke slammed by kane and the bigshow, that'll be alright.

So the champs slightly better, ok lets have him get slammed and try and pick up the words fattest forehead for a month.

And they get paid to do this?

They can't allow Batista to work through another injury, that's for sure. SmackDown is failing and the last thing they need is another 3 months of no title matches.

Well, hopefully now they go the direction they'd intended to the day Eddie Guerrero (may he rest in piece) died. The original plan back then was to have Eddie take the strap in the triple threat match and allow Batista some time on the sideline.

Hopefully they have him defend (and drop) the belt at Royal Rumble. I'd say sooner, but it'll be hard to throw together a match for Orton against anybody else at such short notice - unless you continue his little 'feud' with Benoit or book an unexpected Undertaker return.

Reports indicate that the injury suffered by Batista last night was a torn triceps. This is an injury he suffered before in the past and it kept him out of action. Batista was already working through a back injury and the triceps tear was bad. Look for them to bench the WWE World champion for a while. Dave is being sent to see Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL for further evaluation. WWE.com will keep you updated on Batista's condition.

WWE Cruiserweight champion Kid Kash broke his arm after receiving a stiff kick from Tony Santarelli while working for WWE developmental territory Deep South Wrestling last Thursday. There were hopes that it was just a bad bruise but we’ve confirmed today that its in-fact a break. At the Smackdown house shows this weekend, they did a strange deal where the injury was announced and a match was held to crown a new Cruiserweight champion. The match then ended with a DQ, so Kash was ruled still Cruiserweight champion.

Bad news on Batista, that will keep him out for a few months. So the question now is what to do with the title. For me the best bloke is Benoit, as much as I don't like him as champion, the problem is he is in a US Title feud! What about Lashley perhaps, Orton but Batista would have to wrestle for that to happen as he is a heel as well. What I would really like is for a tournament, where say 12 superstars fight it out to be the next WHC at the Royal Rumble where the final match would be held, perhaps Henry vs Benoit for the title and Benoit vs Orton at Mania after Orton wins the Rumble. That is the way I would go. Rey could be another option but it is too risky making him chap at the moment in my opinion.

A tournament to decide a new champion wouldn't be such a bad idea, although I think eight would be a sweeter number (breaks down easier). They'd have two episodes of Smackdown to get it down to either the semi finals or the final in time for the Royal Rumble.

Yeah that would be fine CWB. This is how I would go (my opinion of course)

Benoit vs Ken Kennedy
Rey Mysterio vs Joey Mercury

Undertaker vs Orton
hardcore Holly vs Mark Henry

Semis: benoit vs Mysterio and Taker vs Henry with Melina

Final (at Rumble) Benoit vs Henry with Melina

A few problems with your one, locky1. Firstly, Mercury's really not ready for a singles push - and secondly, Kennedy isn't fit to work matches at the moment. If it were me I'd go for something like:

Chris Benoit vs. John Bradshaw Layfield
Rey Mysterio vs. Mark Henry
Randy Orton vs. Hardcore Holly
Matt Hardy vs. Orlando Jordan

Let Benoit go over JBL due to Boogeyman's continued interference, have Henry beat Mysterio (Batista's tag partner) to keep that feud fresh - and have Orton go over clean to show his legitimacy. Then you have Hardy vs. Jordan where either could go over, although Hardy due to Booker T's interference seems logical. Sets up finals of:

Randy Orton vs. Matt Hardy
Chris Benoit vs. Mark Henry

Orton to beat Hardy because, logically, he's the guy you want holding the title. Then have Benoit pick up the 'shock' win by beating the much bigger man - setting up a Benoit vs. Orton match at Royal Rumble that's well hyped, features two good competitors, and would provide a legitimate champion regardless of the outcome.

Yeah not bad CWB, although, and this is my opinion I would rather still have Henry in the title match with Benoit. I would leave Orton till Mania or Summerslam where he will win the title. Benoit can carry the strap for a while. I'd rather someone "cheat" to beat Orton and set up a short but useful feud for him at the RR. Possibly have Rey against Henry in the semis and JBL against Benoit. It just makes more sense for Henry being near the top becuase it is certain that Batista when he returns will be near the main event, so it is logical to perservere with Henry in the main event as well. Plus he is reasonable on the mic. It is a matter of opinion though.

Orton won't win the title at Wrestlemania without a face turn. It's basically a standard that the babyface wins at Wrestlemania. If they give Orton the title now, that leaves it for a Batista regain (with a Mark Henry feud afterwards) at Wrestlemania.

Not every WM the face wins. The Rock beat Stone Cold as a heel. It would add for some unpredictability. Anyway I'd rather Orton win it at Summerslam anyway. Give benoit a few months, drop it to Henry at the Great American Bash or a PPV around then to Henry and then have Henry vs Batista for the title. Then have Batista vs Orton for the title at Summerslam.
