Batista to defend World Title this week on SD!

Following the airing of WWE Friday Night SmackDown last night, a video promo was added on WWE.com announcing that Batista would defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Eddie Guerrero and Randy Orton in a Triple Threat Match next week on SmackDown.

Given the news that came out of the SmackDown tapings this past week with Batista suffering a muscle tear to his latissimus dorsi (a muscle on the upper back that connects under each arm), it appears WWE might be going with a title change with either Guerrero or Orton since Batista's injury will likely keep him out of action for up to three months or so.

This match will be taped tomorrow night for SmackDown in Minneapolis, MN. RAW will also be taped tomorrow night as well. So, for those wanting to know the outcome earlier, we will have a report from the show late tomorrow night
--------------------------

Theres a title change coming. Batista will spend most of this match on the outside of the ring Id say, with Orton and Eddie fighting for the title. Orton will win it.

If Orton wins the WHC, where does his feud with Taker go? Buried Alive match for the WHC at Survivor Series? ;)

it's a real shame that batista got injured, but i think the best thing to do would be to get surgery, recover fully (i've heard 3 months) and come back to eventualy feud for the title at wm22.

i'm not sure who'll get the belt, to be honest. i expect it'll be orton with a title match with taker at survivor series, but i'm not sure. however, if orton wins the belt, he could well replace batista as the 'leader' of the sd! team, and they put the taker feud on the backburner. also, they don't really have a feud in the works for eddie that would be a legitimate title feud. imo, he'll feud with kennedy (which will be awesome).

it'll certainly be interesting how this situation pans out.

My guess is that Orton will win it, and Kennedy takes Batistas spot in the 5 vs 5 match to add to the future feud of Guerrero and Kennedy.

I thought following Smackdown that Orton and Matt Hardy were about to begin a feud..I wonder if they will scrap that due to Batista's Injury. Hardy would not look out of place on the Title scene and he has shown the capacity to 'perform' in big matches, most recently against Edge in the Steel Cage

Hardy is a mid-carder at best. He can't "carry" the company which is what you need your champions to do. Following Batista's injury it is safe to say the Orton-Hardy feud will be put on hold.

I seriously think Hardy will be given a good push now, because hes way over with the fans and thats what the WWE care about. Plus he is a better wrestler then hacks like Cena.

Please don't bloody turn this into another Cena bashing thread.

Hardy will take on Orton for the title in my opinion, but I don't think that he will stay in the main event game for long.

i wonder if the public announcement of batista's injury will take anything away from whoever becomes the new champ (assuming that's the case)?

be interesting to see how they go about getting batista off air, surely they will go with an injury line but if they are smart they can have something like someone they plan to push big time over the next few months like a Lashley or Kennedy, come out and attack Batista during the match (ref not looking of course), injurying him, which will give batista a fued to come back into and elevate him back to the main event, whilst continueing the push... the title holder at the time be it eddie or orton can then be revealed as the man who hired the Lashley/Kennedy... would then give another angle to the title fued for a returning Batista

Maybe they'll turn Eddie on him this week?

Eddie and Orton gang up on Batista after the match and beat him savagely setting up for an Eddie and Batista match at Wrestlemania.

Hardy is better than a mid carder.. He has put on some of the most entertaining matches in WWE history, albeit in Tag matches. He deserves a push and god knows he has more ability than many than have been given opportunities by the WWE. I think the whole release incident was an eye opener for the WWE and they realise that he well and truly is OVER with the crowd and this is a huge advantage

I don't think they will turn Eddie heel yet. I reckon when Batista returns from his injury then they'll turn him heel.

Seeing that Eddie tradically passed away maybe it may just be a singles match with Batista against his former Evolution member Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship

I don't know about everyone else but it just doesn't feel right to talk about what might happen now?

Agreed but the WWE does go on and despite the cirumstances which are terrible I think it is best to move on. You have designed a thread for the memories which is a good show of respect which I have responded to anyway. It will be interesting to see Smackdown this week.

True. And i think Eddie would want the show to go on.

If Randy became WHC this week it wont be the same. He is going to win it by default. And what match can Batista put on with his injury? It can't be carried now as it would have been as a triple threat.
