Battle between Eel's Jarryd Hayne and Newcastle's Kurt Gidley to be NRLs top fullback

I know you don't rate Gidley Colonel but that is way OTT.

Gidley has performed at Origin level whereas Morris will never even clome close to playing Origin.

At his best Morris was an adequate 6 to Tim Smith's 7. At his best, Gidley has been one of the dominant player sin the entire NRL, and for more than one season.

There is no comparison.

At NRL level Gidley is an outstanding fullback. His skillset means he probably hasn't found his best position (you could say the same for elite players such as Marshall, Folau and Inglis to be honest).

At the Knights Gidley is an outstanding fullback.

I highly doubt he'd carry the same role into another club. At Origin level he has performed - moreso when used as a utility and around the ruck. His games this year at fullback were certainly not outstanding for Origin in attack.

His best game this series was when he, Farah and Wing were making huge metres from dummy half. He makes a lot of metres for Newcastle as well but mostly from dummy half.

The Knights have a good little hooker in DeGois, a very good five eight in Mullen and struggle to find a player to help in the 6 or 7 role. Gidley fills the void in and around the ruck or at first and second receiver.

Take him out of the Knights and he would be at hooker or on the bench at most other clubs.

Probably Craig Wing would have been a better comparison.

On form it's a pretty one sided fight IMO, the only reason Kidley kept the origin fullback spot was he was the captain. Thats not to say Kidley isn't a great player at NRL level, Newy would struggle without him but i just think Hayne is at another level.

The only similarities is the number on their back.

Completely different style of player...

Hayne is a gifted freak who, when he wants, can damage any team single handedly

Gidley is a tireless worker who is just as valuable to his team

Hayne is a better attacker

Gidley tries harder on a consistant basis

Each could do with the other one's attributes!!

I find it hard to compare, Hayne is the form player in the NRL it's bound to end sooner or later for a bit. Gidley is constantly so good and has more weapons then Hayne imo.

I don`t think he has more weapons than the 'Prince of Parramatta', but he is more versatile in terms of the different positions he can play. He certainly has been very consistent over a longer period than Hayne, too.
But I like our Prince better.

Bottom line , if you're a CEO ,and both came on the market , who would you have.
I think even allowing for a blue and gold bias forum , you'd take Hayne every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Gidley isn't a FULLBACK hes a utility, it works at the knights cause he does whatever the hell he wants and they just let him, but at origin level it just confused the whole thing. RIDICULOUS i would pick hayne at fullback any day at least he plays like a fullback and doesnt clutter up dummy half for the hooker. But i reckon stewart at fullback hayne still on the wing for SOO would be better

all parra manly rivalry aside stewart is a mad fullback and hayne is awesome at wing or fullback but at origin level we dont really have other fenominal wingers so it would prob be better having hayne on the wing unless u can honestly say u'd like a chump like macmanus back. Stewart can find the line which NSW needed this year 5 trys from 2 games this year

I think Morris is a great winger (for mine, better than the wolfman) and now Tahu is back and can also fill the wing spot.

This is what I would like to see as the NSW Backline

1. Hayne
2. Tahu
3. Jennings
4. Cooper
5. Morris

Stewart hasn't played in how long???? Bad knee injury who says he will come back as good. While Hayne is the most devastating player in the NRL ATM. I know who my money is on for NSW fullback next season.
