He scored 24 points yesterday, add that to the 139 he'd accumulated in the prior 14 rounds... 163 points so far. He's a sensational player and a standout. He will go well in first grade, it's just a matter of when.

He is a great talent definately, but he lacks the finishing touches when it comes to organisation skills, and lacks a brilliant kicking game, he is a great ball runner which is why fullback is his best position but can get away with playing five-eighth because generally field kicking is non-existant pretty much with a 1st receiver who focuses on running and passing with the half to have the professioncy with general kicking, But Like Inglis i think Barba lacks the space needed to be individually at his best at five-eighth and I think Fullback is the best position for him.

I watched him yesterday and despite scoring 3 tries he didn't really impress me that much though. He's very fast but he's also small and built a bit like Matt Bowen. He didn't demonstrate Bowen's creativity or evasiveness yesterday though. Maybe he has these attributes but just from watching him he appeared to me to be primarily a speedster. The dogs right now lack creativity and organization more than anything. I'm not sure he can provide this. He might make an ok winger or fullback though.

Bear in mind also that every team hypes up their juniors. You never hear a club say we have bad juniors. Theres always some brilliant young half waiting in the wings too that the fans can't believe isn't playing first grade. Then they make out the coach is somehow crazy for not having him in the side. It's worth noting you can count on one hand the number of genuinely great halves in our competition. Most halves fail when they get to the top. So if you think I'm being negative look at past history.

I think this is one of the best and most assesments regarding Ben Barba that I have read. Quality post.

Barba is developing those skills. He was woesful at the start of the year. His kicking has improved out of sight since. He may be ready sometime next season seeing as he is under the tuiton of Andrew Johns.

Regarding Groom...he had a shaky start to his debut and started slowly defencively especially. Got going abit in the 2nd half and handled himself well...I think Groom is ready to play a few games back to back.

Doesn't look quite ready yet to me, tries won't come that easily to him in first grade. He looks a bit like Jamie Soward, I hope for his sake he's much better than that.

Well, that's it then. DM and Folkesy have got nothing, apparently. Pick the kid.

BOT, he's a bloody smartarse. Cheeky halves are part of the game but he seems to be full of himself to me and that isn't a good thing IMO.

For the rest of the season I would probably alternate him between FG and Toyota cup, so he can show what he has learnt in FG in the U20's. Next season I would be starting him next to Kimmorely who will really show him how to lead a side.

Young Barba has the same tackling technique as his older brother. None!!

His older brother had blistering pace and was the leading try scorer in the QLD Cup a few years ago but when it came to tackiling, he had a pea haert and went missing in action. Young Barba has shown he can't tackle in NYC so I don't hold too much faith in his ability in NRL which has shown he will have diffculty.

He reminds me of a player who thinks because he is very good in attack, he doesn't have to tackle. He will learn soon that there is no way to hide in NRL and first grade coaches won't put up with for long.

Why waist him playing for this joke of a Bulldogs side this year? Save him for next year to be paired with Brett Kimmorley in the halves.

Yes, but it good for him to learn the ropes now, so he has a good feel for how much extra work he will need to do in the offseason to get up to the pace.

Actually I am more excited about John Kite. The guy is a monster!
