Beach RL tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia

Dorcol Spiders dominated the inaugural RL tournament held yesterday in Novi Sad city beach Strand on the Danube. In the opening match Novi Sad Pigeons won local Vojvodina Rams 10-7. Then Dorcol won the both Vojvodina (16-1) and Novi Sad (9-3) and their captain Nenad Tomic, Serbian 13-a-side international, opened the champagne after the winning ceremony. Novi Sad were second and the host club Vojvodina the third. American Football Club "Novi Sad Dukes" cancelled their share with no clarification and RU Club "Pobednik" (Victor in Serbian) didn't appear due to rain in Belgrade (not in Novi Sad!). Men's magazine CKM supported the tournament and will make public the story about the tournament in next issue. The weather was bad, so the audience wasn't as the organizator expected, but next year it is going to be held in mid-July probably and it is possibly going to be international tournament. The tournament was strong, many Serbian senior and U19 internationals took part in it. It was great success for Serbian Rugby League also, because we made it to have one strong tournament in Serbia and a team on Mx9s in London!

Playing rl on the beach is bloody good fun and I can't believe there isn't more organised games or competitions played on sand. It'd be good to have big tournament somewhere on the NSW or Qld coast a bit like the Orara 7s only on a beach somewhere. What's more it's more appropriate to summer than sevens, you're already on the beach after all.
