Good hit out and decent performance aside from the usual handling errors and giving away a tonne of penalties. Draw was probably are fair result.

Kikau, JFH and Capewell barring injury will all be there in Round 1 so Ivan has no shortage of forwards to pick from. Shame the same can’t be said about the outside backs. Mansour & To’o will be the wingers. Whare will be one centre so I guess the options for the second centre are Chrichton, Naden (who didn’t do himself any favours today) and one of the back rowers playing as the second centre. Aekins will definitely be the fullback whether you like it or not. Only my opinion but he deserves first crack. He’s no Billy Slater but the kid can play.

So much talk about the 6, anyone wanna talk about the 7?

Good hit out overall. I'm staying positive, still can't place us in the 8 yet.

I’d be fine if Luai still got the gig to start with. He’s been very patient and loyal. Burton smashing the door down in reggies would not be a bad thing.

I think with Cleary as our guy for the foreseeable future, we really need to get more structured to be effective and Burton is probably going to fit that style better.

I just don't see the benefit in that. It's basically weakening the team for the sake of sentimentality. It was up to Luai to take the spot with Maloney gone and he has failed pretty hard.

He hasn’t failed at all. Can’t pass judgement on a Mickey Mouse 9’s competition and two largely meaningless trials.

The coaching staff are far and away in the best position to judge and I am happy to place my faith in whomever they decide to run with in Round 1.

Do you really think coach Cleary is going to pick Luai out of sentimentality? I don’t think so, he is going to pick who he believes is the best person for the job in Round 1 and perhaps beyond.

There is options to replace the backs but won’t happen.

I think the thing with Burton is, he is a big body, he is mobile and he has a big kicking game which will take the pressure of Nathan. I think Luai also has a kicking game, particularly short kicking game but we didn’t see any of it today.

I’m not sure who the coach will go with and I think there is a strong possibility it will be Matt Burton. 50/50 call.

The only reason Mansour and Whare will play round 1 is due to sentimentality so why not the same for Luai?

The entire point of trial matches is to work out the roster. This idea that they are meaningless only applies to the score.

I said picking Luai because he waited, which the comment I replied to said, is sentimentality.

Let’s be realistic here Ivan has very few options and that is largely of his own doing.

He chose not to recruit an outside back for this season when it was obvious to almost everyone we needed a quality outside back or a depth signing at the very least.

You can sugar coat it all you like but it will be our Achilles heal this season and if injury strikes more than one of our outside back’s we will be back to the days of having back rowers playing both centre roles.
