Easy to be wise in hindsight. Maloney was no standout in NSW Cup and who is to say that he would be the player he is now if he stayed rather than blossoming under the Bellamy/Storm system. I don't recall many blowing up when he went to Storm.

Hodko is not all that much better than Morts IMHO. Manly seem to have no problem in letting him go.

I seem to recall Maloney being rated by people that watched NSW cup at the time. I doubt Manly would have let Hodkinson go if they didn't have a replacement in DCE in reserves. Bulldogs paid crazy money for Hodkinson.
