If he sits out, he doesn’t get paid.

If he doesn’t turn up to training, he gets sacked and doesn’t get paid.

He has no other options to get paid his top dollar without showing up, bottom lip on the ground (as usual) and doing what he’s told.
Players won't get the full contract amount if terminated but I assume they will get a proportion of it in some "confidential" payout

David Nofoaluma stopped going to training and was terminated by the Tigers who paid him 300k

Taylan May also got a pay out from Penrith after they terminated his contract/services.

Agree that the Hunt situation has become untenable, however, he is unlikely to move on in the short term given he's still in the Aus squad and would then require his 'break'. So late January before we could see any action from him. By then we would then be up for 3 months of his salary, which would make a move more attractive to another suitor.

I feel a lot is riding on us securing Gutho (as a leader ie: to replace Hunt in that category, albeit he wasn't much of one) and the young Sharks half.

It’s definite negotiable. But 300k is a long way short of a mill and no club anywhere is going to offer him more than 500k going forward.

He’s tripped over his bottom lip and in to a corner.

Hilarious.

The quicker the man makes a decision than all the better . We are in a ‘ holding pattern ‘ at the moment and cannot move one way or the other until the king announces his intentions .

If he is after a place to stay then I have a spare garage out back with running water and a lovely view of the countryside which I would rent out to him for a most modest amount . And should he decide to bring his family with him then his missus could help my little lady out in the kitchen - who knows I might have a decent meal for a change ! 😳

Before Nov 1 to save 1/4 million? If so, it has been a real game of chicken.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have reached an agreement for Ben Hunt to depart the club immediately despite having one year remaining on his contract.

Hunt made a significant impact during his seven seasons with the Dragons, playing 147 games and serving as captain since 2021.

"This decision was not easy and was not taken lightly, but we need to do what is best for the club at this time," said Dragons CEO Ryan Webb.

"After extensive discussions with Ben and his management, it became clear that this is the best path forward for both parties. It allows the club to openly explore the player market and focus on the future.

"Ben has been an important part of our club and we are grateful for his contributions. We wish him and his family all the best in their next chapter."

Hunt said he wished the club success into the future.

“I am grateful for everything the club has done for me over the years and appreciate them allowing me to explore other opportunities,” Hunt said.

Head Coach Shane Flanagan expressed his confidence in the direction the club is headed next season.

"Ben is an exceptional player and his skill set will not be easily replaced,” Flanagan said.

“However, we are committed to finding the right solutions and believe in the strength of our club moving forward.”
