Most of the rank and file fans of the game were astonished when he started slagging his own club post Hook. He seemed determined to cheapen the jersey for his own benefit.

Nothing us fans despise more than gross disloyalty from millionaire players on the sulk. Ungrateful little arrogant sook.

There are ways and means of getting out of contracts behind the scenes but this public stuff was truly awful.

And I mentioned it earlier, Flanno and the team pulling in one direction, having a go.

Ardent criticism of individual players and the side if they play badly will appear, but tempered by a kind of quiet sympathy.

So it will be very interesting to see if your side responds with all the good will in the world or do we have a game which has a Hunt as its role model?

Is his kind what the NRL is about?

It’s up to you guys in 2025 to answer that question.

Outgoing Dragons skipper Ben Hunt has revealed he did not hear from head coach Shane Flanagan during his exit from the club nor has he heard from him since.
Hunt said the situation at the Dragons had become so dire that he admitted he did not want to return to training with club.

Asked if it was hard to walk away from his $900,000-a-year contract, Hunt replied: “To be honest I didn’t think about it ... it wasn’t the main thing I thought about … it was just time.”
While Hunt did not hear from Flanagan at the end, he said had never had a major issue with the coach. But given Flanagan’s silence it now seems there could be a problem.

“My final conversations with the club were with [CEO] Ryan Webb and [general manager of football] Ben Haran,” said Hunt when asked about the role Flanagan played in his departure.

“I haven’t heard from Shane and I guess that says something about where things are at, but I didn’t have a drama. It got to the point where something had to happen, and it’s true. I didn’t want to go back and train with a club in the pre-season.
“I knew my time was done. I feel relieved now that it’s over. I certainly feel like I put in for the club and contributed as much as I could. I was very invested and I think I played my best footy for the Dragons and I don’t agree with the idea that I was never invested in my time at the Dragons.
“I gave my all for the club and I hope that people can see that. It’s not how I wanted things to end, but that’s how it happened and now I’ve got the opportunity to further my career in coming weeks.”

Hunt added he was yet to entertain the thought of playing for a new club.
“I’ll worry about all of that after my Kangaroo commitments are done and I know it’s been said I will be returning to Queensland but that’s not necessarily the case,” he said.

Ben, we don’t give a shit.
It was mutual, after you agitated for ages in the most disruptive and disrespectful ways.
We can safely assume you haven’t made any effort to contact Flanno either.
Just F off! We’ll see you on the field next time we cross paths.

All the focus on about Hunts last 3 games of the year.. but the same problems were there in most games for many years.. its just that those 3 were must-wins.....

I find journalists/experts giving opinions on Hunt as a playmaker, would be kind of like me giving my views on any other clubs playmaker.. its like yeah ive watched a bit.. and I've got an opinion, but I just dont have enough interest/care/time to really study and analyse and get inside info.. to followe the trends.. look for mitigating factors in the players around them.. like I have a few moments of them in my memory bank.. and I listen to what 'experts' say.. but its not the same.. not the same as going in real deep beyond the surface level..

Its why some of us are so excited about Atko or Pezet or Trindall or whoever... we havent really studied them in-depth.. we just have a few highlights and a bit of an idea and a whole lot of hope.. its the same with those wanting to recruit Hunt right now.. and tbf lets see what they get out of him.. maybe a more astute coach can get him to work to his strengths... it just depends which squad he gets recruited into.

Yep I agree, Hunt was very invested into the club, primarily to the tune of $7 Mill, it was a great investment for one and a really shithouse investment for another. You were never inclusive of the club, cry me a river !!!

Yet again the little whiner sheds the blame for the demise of his relationship with Flanagan firmly at his feet . Reading his account of his time at the Big Red V it would appear that the poor sod gave his heart and soul for the Dragons , which a captain should .

However the truth is that Mr. Hunt was a abysmal failure , the man played well enough whilst Gareth Widdop and we had a respectable forward pack , but the man went backwards after he had the added responsibility of captain thrust upon his shoulders .

The last 3 seasons his contribution to the team was minimal at best , this I put down to the fact that he was running on tired legs , which Mr. Hunt does not seem to understand occurs when one passes the ripe old age of 30 .

He is fast approaching 35 next season and unless his signs with a star studded team , then he will find that his future in the game will be quickly coming to an end as will the squillion of dollars that he has earned ( ? ) - been paid.

Flanno didn't give Hunt a goodbye hug! Stop the presses!

No way, Once bitten
I just can’t believe he thinks he’s deserves some kind of phone call from Flanno.

What was he expecting?:

Flanno:

“I’m really sorry Ben. Sorry you told your mates before me that you are not coming to preseason training, sorry you slagged off my kid Kyle, sorry you slagged off the club when you we’re captain. I profusely apologise for allowing you to feed speculation and finally for asking you to play stronger next year.”

I can just hear Ben’s answering machine:

“ Hi, Bunt….thanks for ( slurrrp) trying to get in touch with me (slurrp, slurrpp) via the paper….SLURRP!! …click”

Ben must be the most entitled and conceited asshole ever to play footy.

In a category of his own.

Why does he think that he needs to hear from Flanno?
He’s been agitating for a release for twelve months then finally gets it. He should be ringing Shane & thanking him.
Can’t believe he said that he wants to go win a premiership & just enjoy his footy lol.
If it was too tough for him being captain of our great club then he should’ve stepped down from the captaincy & enjoyed his footy.
