I quite liked Kouparitsas today, was possibly his best game for us so far. Seemed to make some good runs when he was playing at second row.
Emerging Origin player? He has done nothing to warrant selection for top grade, let alone Origin. His best game he had was for the Aboriginal Allstars, apart from that he has played very inconsistantly.
sorry, FYI, queensland selects a team at the end of every season of young NRL players who they think have the potential to play rep footy at some time in the future and call it, "the emerging origin team". Jones made that team last year or the year before.
Smith has kept a heap of boom youngsters in lower grades over the years for some reason - Hayne couldn't get a run under Smith at Parra - Uate couldn't get a run under Smith at Newcastle etc etc.
Smith brings on a lot of youngsters - but not kids who have their names in the papers at a young age for some reason.I don't regard Jones as a boom youngster. Promising yes but certainly he has never performed at a high standard in NYC.. I am pretty sure Uate was playing under Smith last season and from memory he gave countless youngsters a game at Parramatta. I couldn't remember too many complaints in 2001 about the likes of Nathan Cayless, the Hindmarsh brothers, Mick Vella etc etc playing First Grade.

I do know what you mean, which is why I am glad that Guerra has been given the shot he has. I'm still expecting Jones to play a few games during the Origin period, but right now we cannot fix what isn't broken and we don't need a player with the defence that Jones has right now. I do recognise your point though, especially regarding a player like Uate.Smith brings on a lot of youngsters - but not kids who have their names in the papers at a young age for some reason.
I don't know if he thinks there will be too much pressure on them or what - but Hayne spent a year in lower grades he shouldn't have, and Uate spent two years in lower grades when he was just as ready as he is now.
Guys like Terrence Seu Seu, James McManus, Cory Paterson etc were plucked from obsurity and dropped into firstgrade, while the whole country was talking about Uate and he had to wait 2 years (and before anyone says it - the defensive problems he had then were the exact same problems he has now).
