Doust just sits in his office "waiting" for managers to come knocking & probably begging before he does anything.Last year i was privy to Tapau being released by the dogs & i emailed doust thinking he may be suitable for us.His answer i'll pass it onto our recruitment manager.Anyway for bens future he is better off at penrith as he'll be well coached & they are a progressive club moving ahead with the times.

'Recruitment manager' must be another name for Doust's rubbish bin.:sarcasm:

Flanno has high praise for him, but the bit that surprised me:
Ben, who is currently rehabbing a foot injury suffered in July, will remain with the Dragons on a development contract for the 2025 season.

He will continue to play an integral role for the club off the field in a leadership and cultural capacity.
I cant really imagine BMM taking a bench spot in 2025.. I wonder if that might change in time.. we shall see.

24 season he -payed better, seemed to have shorter beast mode stints in some games that really helped. That said I thought it was time to move forward. Maybe he is good around he team, training and decelopment?

edit: just read the article posted above. Becomes clear why Flanno wants him around.

Brave of him to talk about his battles with depression - even though its being taken much more seriously these days I still think there's a section of society who don't really recognise it for the issue it is. As someone who inherited my mother's f##ked up genes and has lived every day with "the black dog" I can say it's one heck of condition to live with and it colours every decision you make, not to mention how it affects the people alongside you.
Great to see Flanno keeping some good influences around the club.

Rev, I thought he played well everytime he took the field.
Yah fair, don't get me wrong he's obviously a great cultural fit, he is epic for nsw cup... If we had an injury crisis maybe he can give 1st grade some bench impact.. Its just a real surprise as he's getting older and I assumed retired..

Dev spots starting to get used up also, esp if eisenhuth takes another (which is still tbd).

Yeah, I'm lucky

Brought up by children of WWII - the answer to everything was pretty much 'you'll be alright get over it'. (This is not a solution just my reality)

I have no idea what it is like, therefore very difficult to comprehend. For me the black dog is the smokes and grog, again not a solution.

i then experienced living with clinical depression brought about by my wife trying to care for her mother in her latter years whilst working and bringing up our son. 'Careers stress"

it's ugly and you feel quite helpless.

keep on it - I wish you the best

Mate its also brave of you talking about your issues on this open forum. All the very best in being able to conquer your demons and a bright future ahead as a Dragons faithful.

Jesus - f**k me! You are the second person in my orbit to say that to me.

I can confirm that smokes and booze are probably a form of self medication, developed when younger, handling personal issues.
Mum refers to me as being knock-about. I did initially use humour to deflect but that is now habit. It is me!

I'm 61 but I've never ever had those really dark thoughts, but also confirm I've never really tried to resolve childhood issues professionally.

To be totally honest, despite my vices which I enjoy, I am very content with my life.

You certainly freaked me out with your assessment, though.

Trust me, I'm not perfect but I'm OK. I do appreciate your concern.

Thanks Justa
