The Real Rabbitohs has announced the signing of former Broncos, Leeds and Eagles five-eighth Ben Walker for the remainder of the 2005 season today.

Walker, 28, has been recruited to fill the five-eighth position at the Rabbitohs after leaving the Sea Eagles at the end of the 2003 NRL season.

Walker was the leading point scorer in the National Rugby League in 2001 (18 tries and 103 goals for 279 points) when playing with the Northern Eagles and was also the first player to secure a golden point victory for his side, the Manly Sea Eagles, in the NRL in 2003.

Real Rabbitohs Head Coach Shaun McRae is delighted the Club has been able to sign a talent like Walker at this stage of the season.

“With the indefinite time frame on John Sutton’s sternum injury and the season ending knee reconstruction for Peter Taylor, it was an opportune time to see if there was anyone available who could fill the five-eighth role immediately,” McRae said today.

“A player with the talent and experience of Ben Walker couldn’t be overlooked and I’m very happy to be adding him to our squad.”

Walker is happy to be getting another shot in the NRL with the Rabbitohs.

“I’m looking for an opportunity to rebuild my NRL career and I’m very grateful that I’ll have that chance at the Rabbitohs,” Walker said after touching down in Sydney this afternoon.

“The Rabbitohs are on the way up and I can’t wait to play in the NRL again.”

Good to see him back in the NRL. It will be interesting to see how he goes...

Good signing for the Rabbitohs.
